I bought a new Acer Aspire in May with Vista Home Premium. It would not install the drivers for my 2 different HP All-in-one printers (vista-compatible drivers downloaded from HP website). I figured they were just not truly Vista compatible, so I went out and bought a brand new Epson Stylus NX110 (with a Vista logo on the box).
Tried installing the drivers from the CD and even though it said the installation was successful, the printer did not show up in the control panel and I could not print. I uninstalled all if the Epson drivers and downloaded the drivers from Epson's website. The scanner driver installed just fine, but when I tried to install the printer driver the computer stopped responding. I waited for a few minutes then a non-descript error came up that said the driver could not be installed.
I spent 90 minutes of the phone with a very helpful Epson technical support (and a supervisor) who guided me through all sorts of possible remedies, only to have them say it must be a problem with Vista. I then went a downloaded and installed the same driver onto my laptop with Windows XP with no problem (the driver is the same for XP and 32-bit Vista).
It is 4 months later and I still haven't found a solution. I've installed Vista SP2, plugged the USB cable into the computer for Vista to automatically install (always says a error occured and cannot install) and tried everything else I can think of. I would just really like to have a working printer for my new computer!

Disconnect your printer. Then go into device manager (in control panel under system) and delete ANY mention of your printer.
Then go here : http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=41664&infoType=Downloads
And download the appropriate driver for Vista. Dont rely on Microsofts' own drivers.

Hi.
Please try to uninstall and re-install the drivers on your laptop now that the ink light is not on steady anymore.
As i see it, the issue is hardware. The printer will not allow you to print anything if any cartridge is not recognized or any cartridge is out of ink. The red indicator light on the printer that was on steady while your installing the drivers on your laptop, indicates that there was a cartridge that was out of ink.
