Turn your power off, then reach inside the drum and turn the drum 1/4-1/2 turn. Turn your power back on and try pressing the start switch again.
Sometimes motors get a dead spot in them and this helps to move it from the dead spot.
If that doesn't help then listen again closely, and may be the humming is your motor running...if the motor is running then that would indicate a broken belt might be your problem.
If none of the above is your problem then your problem could be your motor.
I hope this helps

Kenmore dryer model 86880100: Start button would just buzz when pressed, sometimes actually start the machine, then the machine would run for a few minutes and turn itself off with a burning smell. Now...

Sounds like a over heated motor which starts when the motor is cool but not after it runs and stop. Burning smell comes from the heated windings on the motor coils.
Make sure that the pully is not binding...which i doubt.

I have a Whirlpool dryer model LEN2000JQ0. The heating element glows red and gets really hot. You can feel the heat and smell the heat I go to turn on the dryer it makes a buzzing sound and the drum will...

I would change the control thermostat. It is mounted next to the skinny white fuse on the filter housing under the dust cover on the back side.
I worked on a dryer like this that had a heat problem and wrote about it HERE

When I press the start button on my GE DPSR610EG4WT profile dryer it only makes an electrical buzzing sound and will not turn on or start. What causes this?

The buzz is probably coming from the control switch drive motor. If it is not turning the switch, the dryer wont run.

Drum will not turn and there is no heat.

This dryer has a circuit board that controls virtually everything. If it makes a buzzing noise when you press the power button to turn on the control panel, it's probably not going to be an easy fix. When you hire a professional, you avoid buying expensive parts that you might not need, such as a control board. If it makes a loud buzzing noise when you press the start button, it's possible that it could be a motor or belt problem. But again, I'd recommend a service call for this one.

Amana gas dryer wont start. just makes a faint buzzing noise

The drive motor starting capacitor is likely dead. This can be tested if you are competent enough to take the thing apart and use an electronic multimeter. Otherwise it is a cheap part to replace, depending on how much the repair guy charges for labor and to be called out.
