JVC TV You can hear the sound on my TV and it still changes channels and volume but has no picture. There is only a black screen. Any ideas? I have the exact same problem on my AV-27730. It began as black screen on top and bottom with a one inch wide band of picture showing across the full width in the middle. It might play for days without this problem and then pop up again. Now it will not changes from a full black screen. Audio is working fine.

I shook our JVC TV and it came back to life a few times. However, now it remains in blind mode no matter how much I move the set.

Guess I'll look for a replacement part and resonable repair estimate around Salt Lake City.

Same problem with a JVC 27" 10-11 years old. Turning off/on worked a few times, but now it takes longer to restore and blacks out more frequently. I've seen horizontal lines at bottom of screen lately and just before it blacks out. Is it worth me searching for a JVC repairer near me (probably at least an hour away) and paying someone to remove and haul it there and back?

Civilman, the first set has either no high voltage or is collapsed vertically, until someone checks for high voltage there is no concrete answer, the AV27730 is vertical collapse from your description, either the voltage to the vertical IC is missing or the vertical IC has failed, not a big deal cost-wise, hope this answers your questions, if not e-mail me back, good luck, BMW Rider

No data is sent to the screen

When the screen goes completely black, shine a very bright flashlight closely at the screen. If you can see the image, then the most likely problem is that the backlight inverter has failed.

The inverter is a circuit board that works like a flourescent light ballast. If the inverter fails, there is no backlight, and the screen is black.

Since the invertor is a high-voltage component, I would also listen for any unusual sounds associated with the failure: e.g. buzzing, whistling, popping.

To rule out some sort of connection failure, see if you can recreate the failure mode when using the TVs internal setup menu. The setup menu does not rely on any external inputs....of course neither does the volume control or channel indicator on the screen.

No sound on JVC AV-48P575 48 inch rear projection TV

Try going into the menu and find something called, "center channel input." If it is on, the sound will not work. Turn it off, and the sound should be restored.

How to get rid of a black screen on my tv. sound is ok

If you mean that you get a black box, with a little of the picture visible around the edges, then your closed captions are on and set to TEXT. This puts a black box on the screen about 10 seconds after changing the channel. Go into the menu and turn off the closed captions and the picture will be back to normal.
