Clean the filters. Also clean the coils and bucket with a mild bleach solution.

I just purchased the maytag 45 pint dehumidifier. I am using it in my basemeant which is about 700 square ft. What do I set the digitals on?
I suggest you experiment with the settings. Does this unit have a "current humidity" display?
Start with a higher setting and let it run for a few days watching how much water it pulls. Keep turning it down a little every few days until the problem you're trying to fix no longer exists (musty smell, sweating pipes, etc.)

Runs, but overheated, tripped outlet causing freezer full of rotten food
There was a recall on these - it depends on the age.  I bought mine in 2003 or 2004, and they sent a repairman out to replace a circuit board.  Call Maytag to see if yours was in the recall.
