Turn the console on & it goes from green light to amber to flashing red. tried the hard reset, didn't work. held the power button down & it beeps 3 times & does the same thing as above. unplugged it for a while didn't work.

Your PS3's problems are actually being caused by a connection error between the hard drive and motherboard. Without a correctly working hard drive connection your PS3 is unable to function and goes into shutdown mode, with the flashing red light warning.

i have the same problem but to make matters worse mine wont even turn on now but a bunch of people say you have to take it to sony or i dont know if this works but a bunch of people say is does try turning it on or off (i dont know which one) and press the eject and front power button at the same time hope this works tell me if it does
this happens when the ps3 has overheated-try removing the hard drive and replacing then give the console a hoover out.....if this doesnt work try holding the power button on for 5 sec....if this doesnt work its back to sony im affraid
Sounds like a CPU Issue or does read the hard-drive. On the bottom of hte PS3, there is a two by one inch pannel. Remove the screw and pull out the hard-drive and reset it back in and try again. If that doesn work, could be that the hard-drive is fried, or the CPU is fried.
you might be holding the power on button to long. you hold the power on button until it beeps to reset the video output. try turning it on by using your controller. just press the ps3 button and if the red light is on then it should come on.

to turn it on i search a fix on google, but came up empty handed.

decided that i would take the matter into my own hands. i took the hard
drive out and turned it on, and to my amazement it work i dont know
how, but it worked. i then wanted to play resistance fall of man. i
booted up the game and boom it turned off beeped 3 times and the light
flashed red onece again.

took out the hard disk and booted it up again turned it off and put the
hard disk back in. ive been playing ever since and it seems to be
working fine. just thought that id give u guys a heads up, to help

Most likely this is an output problem. But I have had 1 PS3 that had a bad hard drive and it wouldn't even load to the XMB. So try another hard drive and see if that works. Even a swift smack to the old one may work. If that doesn't work try the video out reset.
Reset the Video Output Settings. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings. Once you turn it back on, it should work fine.
