First off remove the adaptor.
Now remove the software for that using add remove programs and then re-start the computer
now re-install the software
When it tells you insert the adaptor in a USB 2.0 port.
Let the installation finish.
This should fix the problem.
Heads up try to leave the adaptor in the same port all the time as it may otherwise want to install every time you plug it into a different port..
You didn't say what your operating system was but anything less than windows XP may have problems (more so with Linux)
Dont plug it into a USB hub as this quite often causes belikn adaptors not to work properly.
Did you have a similar wireless adapter install previous to this one? If the software is similar then you need to uninstall the old software so that you can install the new software. The problem might be the old software version is running and you can't write over a file that is running. You can't delete or overwrite it until that process is closed.
