I have a samsung scd103 digital cam and when i record something it looks good on the screen while im recording it but when i play it back there are grey lines and distorted sound

It's not your recorder, it's the different formats other cams are using. Your's is one of the higher end units vs the "Ebay specials"

my samsung vpd230 has stoped recording, just a black screen,

my samsung mini dvd had problem with recording, the screen would go black (though menu displays come up fine).
could do play back but not record.
i put it in the sun for awhile or in a warm spot and it will record and show display. 
it is not a complete fix but worth trying (on top of the heater works good too). of course the fix doesn't seem to work when i REALLY need to record something.
also had stripes coming across screen recently on playback, gave it a good tap and the stripes went.

The symptom you discribed sounds like a bad ccd sensor problem which my scd103 has. If so it will be covered under warranty through Samsung due to a class action law suit. You will need to go to Samsung.com support and fill out a repair request ticket. once you get the ticket #, contact the factory service centre with this # and they will send you a shipping label via email. Don't tell them your lens is not working! The symptom I have is no image during camera mode, but plays back a tape just fine. Sometimes you might see a distorted image if you move the camera just right. After telling them this they said it would be covered at no charge.

“Memory Stick PRO” can not be used with the SCD103 MODEL.
You MUST use only a memory stick, not the PRO

seems like a flex has come loose inside when i get a camera that is doing what you have described its usually that

This sounds like the CCD sensor is faulty ( this is the device that generates picture in both v-cams and normal digital cameras and sits behind the lens ). Playback is fine but no image ( or very 'noisy' image ) in capture mode. Easy to repair but one has to put a new CCD block in.
