The screen has started displaying vertical lines and I only have audio.
This is a result of faulty or dying dip i.c.'s on the tv's logic board.
there are several that span the width of the tv, when one goes faulty it results in a vertical line.. often yellow.
the logic board is most likely small, containing at least 1 big chip wich is the micro... contact tv manufacturer and try to get a replacement. if not there are many 3rd party supplyers of oem parts
I might add here, plasma televisions run extremely hot wich is thier downfall and the cause of many component failures. have your tv retrofit with two120 mm 12 volt fans over the y & z sustain boards to keep them cool.. heat is your enemy. having this done will double the life of your plasma. plasma tv's are good.. thier downfall is heat and the companies refusal to provide proper cooling in thier product. find a 12 volt source and you are set..or take it to a technician like me that can do this all for you. plasma display is made of matrix of elements connected through cables through top and side... these contacts are held by pressure... maybe they would have been disturbed... Try squeezing the cabinet of the TV on the outside at the top in the area of the loss and see if that makes a difference. or maybe you would have to go inside and check if there is any problem with these contacts...

My 42 in. plasma tv has a vertical yellow stripe on the picture. After a while it goes away, but i am worried it may someday stay. has anyone found a fix for this or is the tv just defective? I have not yet tried to contact the store where I bought the tv from, with an extended service agreement.
I have started seeing the same thing.....today. We bought our tv about 2 years ago, and just realized....duh, don't buy plasma. and even then make sure have a 5 year warranty. I'm struggling to find a LCD tv on tigerdirect.com with high hopes of an amazing price. which they usually do. Along with the vertical lines, has anyone noticed the red dots of death. usually means your tv is about to start loosing information in the form of black squares or more vertical lines until the entire screen is kaput. If anyone is really this, the best solution is to not buy a Plasma, and if you have try to take it back and get an LCD.
