Sound takes up to an hour to come on, Mitsubishi 35'' tv

35'' mitsubishi tv, about 10 years old, picture is great, but sound takes up to an hour to finally come on, used to take about ten minutes after warm up to get sound; we had a lightning storm not too long ago, could that have made the problem worse? Checked the cables, settings, etc, all seems fine. Was told it was a sound board and they could fix it for $700.00, I could buy a new tv for less than that. Any suggestions?

A $700 dollar estimate for a sound problem seems out of line - get asecond opinion (did some one look at it or just a guess). If the sound eventually comes on you probably have a connection (internal) problem or a intermittent part in audio section -cap o/p IC.
If you use a satellite or cable box can you hook your sound from that to an audio system thereby bypassing the TV?

Mitsubishi WD-73838 - Watching TV all seems good and then it shut off small pop heard, thought a lamp but it turns on with picture & sound then off after 10 seconds.

Do you see a small fan close to it? Is it gunked up with dust? It could be the bulb but it sounds like it isn’t getting cooled.

No sound great picture

Are you connected to a Cable box? then make sure cable box is not on MUTE and audio cables are attached.
From MENU check to see that speakers are not disabled on your TV.

Good Luck

Flatline!

the vertical drive ic that drives the yoke for vertical sweep has blown.
sometimes it is solder problems like sharp and toshiba had.
the part is 10$ the pc board will label it ,the yoke is the coil setup on the picture tube.if you follow the wiring half goes to the horizontal drive, and the others to the vertical section.the chip drives the coil directly.there are VERY high voltages in there ,even turned off. the pix tube cap on top is 30000v. like a stun gun.the horizontal drive 2000 volts and the main power supply 165 volts dc high current.you need a special setup to discharge the picture tube.

No picture

Symptoms shows TV got problem in Horizontal deflection area that's why you do not see picture and get only sound.I think its not worth to repair as its 14 years old model and spear parts might not be available or cost too much. Since you still want to repair it, let me know exact model number of TV to check parts are available some where?

Mitsubishi CS-35805 TV

Sorry to be the one to inform you Sheri, but this set is known to have several bad capacitors in the sweep as well as the power supply. Unless you have an ESR type capacitor checker, your going to have to take it in for service, by a pro. Hope yopu did'nt pay to much for it. Good Luck
