I have the same problem. An external mouse does not behave erratically. If the touchpad is wearing out, will a replacement touchpad solve the problem, or does the circuit board need replacing?

You are probably hitting the touchpad on your laptop with the heel of your hand while you're typing. This will make the cursor move to some other place. It's not really moving by itself; you just aren't aware you're doing it. I would suggest turning off the touchpad while you're typing, and then turn it back on as needed. Compaq computers usually have a switch on the touchpad bezel to turn it off. you need to make sure that in the mouse software has the PalmCheck on to make sure that it won't jump when you are typing

It is a common annoyances with netbooks and laptops which lack the disable touchpad button. Most blogs out there are covering a single method to disable the touchpad, i.e, go to Control Panel > Mouse Properties and then disable the touchpad from there.

The above method is not suitable for those who need to disable the touchpad frequently for short periods of time. Who in his/her right mind would navigate back and forth just to enable/disable touchpad? This could be quite a hectic process.
TouchFreeze is a brilliant little app that solves this problem. It disables the touchpad temporarily the moment a keystroke is pressed. In layman's term, it disables the touchpad automatically when you are typing and enables it back when the typing is stopped.
It will sit silently in the system tray without disturbing any of your work. Just start typing and don't worry about the touchpad any more.
I prefer using this app even though my notebook has a disable touchpad button. Please note that this app might not work with certain laptops, but should work with most netbooks and laptops that lack the disable touchpad button.

You need to have this file, msvcr71 dll So go here,  http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr71      Download the file. and then copy it to \Windows\system32\ also it won't hurt to put it in the Root Directory as well. That will at least eliminate that DLL problem may work now.

Generally there is a setting (CONTROL PANEL, MOUSE, Touchpad Tab) to either enable a feature like PALMCHECK or to disable the touchpad while typing. If neither option is shown, then try updating your touchpad driver

This happens to me also. Check whether the touchpad is enabled (laptops do have an option of enabling / disabling the touchpad). Secondly, you can try reinstalling the touchpad driver. Uninstall and then re-install the driver. Re-boot the system. Try using the touchpad.
