To replace the harddrive in computers you need to know the specifications of the Motherboard. Your laptop can handle the following:

Hard drives (include frame and connector) Spare Part Number

5400-rpm, 80-GB 407852-001
4200-rpm, 120-GB 407853-001
4200-rpm, 100-GB 407851-001
4200-rpm, 80-GB 410054-001
4200-rpm, 60-GB 407850-001
4200-rpm, 40-GB 407849-001
Go to the following site and put in the spare part numbers that i have listed and that should get you the upgrade you wanted. Enter the spare parts number above into the parts number in the search by part numbers box.

Faulty toshiba mk8025gas-(pm) ineed to replace the hdd on my acer aspire1650 what drive do you recomend, do ineed sata.or ide..

A Google-search for "specifications Toshiba MK8025GAS" leads to Toshiba's "specifications" page for their disk-drive: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=StorageSolutions/MK8025GAS

Read the page, looking for 'ATA-6' or 'SATA' or 'SATA2' disk-drive interfaces.

Hello I have a Compaq Presario v5000 laptop and my 80GB 2.5" IDE internal hard drive is failing. I would like to buy a new hard drive, say 200GB 2.5" IDE for my laptop will the new hard drive...

There are two types of 2.5-inch disk-drives: those with the (older) "parallel-ATA" interface, and those with the (newer) "serial-ATA" interface.

The easiest way to determine what you have is to take the laptop with you to the computer-store; they can inspect your current disk-drive, and sell you a compatible replacement.

A "good" computer-store can "clone" your existing disk-drive onto the new disk-drive,
copying all the files (your files and the Windows files), and then you can restart and resume
normal operation.

Given the "vintage" of your computer, my guess is "parallel-ATA".

Compaq presario v2414NR, HD acting weird.

They probably never updated the bios, and it's still looking for the old drive, if you get into the bios, you can remove that drive that it's searching for and then make sure that the new drive is being recognised at the 0 position, not 1 but zero, if that doesn't fix it we can go further but that mnmay be the problem, also go into your device manager and make sure you remove the old drive if it's still showing that it is in there. Just uninstall it and restart. the cmos settings should also be cleared by removing the plug and poping out the battery, on the motherboard, it looks like a quarter, it may stll have the old settings stoed in there Good luck, and let us know if it worked

My laptop currently has a Toshiba MK8025gas hard drive, but it has been crash dumping randomly and I want to change hard drives. I also want to change to a 160GB hard drive. Is the Toshiba MK1652GSX...

The main factors in upgrading your drive are interface type and physical size, specifically the thickness of the drive. I haven't had any issues come up from substituting a drive of a different RPM yet. BTW I have a drive that's the same model as yours, it came from a computer that acted up like you're describing, the owner didn't worry about it, and one day it decided it wasn't going to wake up...you shouldn't have any trouble going from an 80gb to a 160gb drive.I believe your drive is an IDE interface, So just make sure you don't order a SATA, toshiba has comparable drives in either interface, I'd look for a good warranty period if the prices are about equal on the drives you're considering
