Offhand, I can't remember all the 'banned' characters, but for example, the at @ symbol colon : symbol direction arrows <> and period . may be confusing to url's.
If you can use another computer or smartphone, try googling 'valid characters for email' or ' how to set up an account'.
Specify the account type, eg: Gmail.
Sounds like you have tried all the easy stuff. I'll guess that the gear on the selection plate is loose from the shaft. No easy fix, you may be better off buying a replacement on ebay they get pretty cheap.
First when you see that first page come out like that...turn the printer off. You will need to re-install the printers drivers. (the CD that came with the printer)
Does it always type the same wrong letter ie
a always prints u or w ? if so the print wheel drive gear is out of position. if not and it get random letters some thing may be interfering with the wheel rotation.
