PIease clean your drive with lens cleaner & clean the DVD, CD disks.I think it is the problem of power supply unit(SMPS). check the SMPS output voltages or change it to higher wattage. (300 to 450 watts) . when we are trying to play DVD 's CD 's , it takes more power from the SMPS unit, so there is a lack of wattge and it makes the system restart.

I cant play cd or dvd on my laptop

You can install or reinstall DVD driver onto your laptop.
1. Open Device Manager using devmgmt.msc command and enable "View -> Show hidden devices" option. Now locate the DVD/CD-ROM drives and IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers items.
2. Right-click on each entry present under both "DVD/CD-ROM drives" and "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" sections one bye one and select Uninstall.
3. Once all have been removed, right-click again and select Scan for hardware changes.
The drives will be rediscovered and when the drivers are loaded back, the drives will re-appear in My Computer window.
You can also try to restart your computer.
Then you should also have a DVD player program on your laptop. You can try Leawo Blu-ray Player which can play both Blu-ray and DVD movies.

My Lenovo g550 model slimtype dvd ads8a4s is playing CD's only not DVD's, it does not recognize them. What can I do?

Please double check your drive. GOTO My computer and there you will see disk partitions and optical drive type.. I mean your DVD drive does it says DVD or CDROM? Now if thats DVD then you need to check software you are using.. Its better if you can download VLC
Player thats the best software I have tried.. and no region issue.

How do I get my laptop to play dvds again it won t work

When you say play DVDs you mean watch DVD movies? Assuming the drive is not broken you need to use the DVD app. You could use VLC Player which you can download. It's an orange traffic cone icon.

HP Media Center m7250n will not play DVDs. It plays CDs just fine. It used to play DVDs but has not played them in quite a while.

that seems strange if it reads cd's it should read dvd's

Click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select the no _ for your specific area
If this does not fix the problem you might try
Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. or
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or

you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down cd dvdrom drives if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark?! or a red x right click you will need to update the driver or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver
