Your hard drive needs to be replaced as it is in the process of failing. If you know nothing about them, I recommend a local computer shop. Please note, the longer you wait, the higher the chance that the hard drive will crash completely and you will lose everything. Act quickly and you may be able to save everything. If you don't know anybody you can call, give my company a call. We can send a tech out to your location (US and Canada) and take care of this for you. Antioch PC Doctor, 260-571-0166.

I have an acer aspire 5040 laptop and when I switch it on it doesn't go to windows it comes up a black screen saying operating system not found. I have tried pressing alt and f10 but nothing happend. I...

The laptop cannot find the operating system on the hard disk.
First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.Next - to check if the harddrive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an USB mass storage device and you cannot open the various folders and fileson this drive, then this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

I have a message rebooting computer dell inspiron 8500 with DK23EA-30 "Warning: Dell's Disk Monitoring System has detected that drive 0 on the primary EIDE controller is operating outside of normal...

This is a SMART hard disk monitor Warning. You should probably make a backup on an external drive just in case the drive decides to fail completely.

When I turn it on it says operating system not found, now how would i fix this

Hello.

You ultimately may need to reinstall Windows or replace your hard drive, but first:

Power off and power on your computer. Press F8 repeatedly to see if you can access Safe Mode. if you can, your hard drive is probably OK. Access Safe Mode, log in and access System Restore. Choose a date when your computer was OK.

If successful, a system file was corrupted and you are on your way.

If unsuccessful, try the computer's diagnostics (press F12 repeatedly upon boot). See if your hard drive is faulty. If so, replace your hard drive. If not,try Factory Restore.

For factory Restore, the computer will go back to the point when you received your computer for the first time. To access, select F11 (or F10) upon boot. Follow the process and if you are successful, you are on your way. If not successful, you'll need to reinstall your Windows operating system.

Hope this resolves your problem.

The programs in my computer have been deleted. Does it mean the computer has a virus?

Could be virus, or your hard drive is going bad. Click Start, Run, type chkdsk.exe, and tell it to run upon next reboot. That will give you an idea about the hard drive. If no errors, then run a full system scan with your Anit Virus. Update it first.

My hard drive got unplugged without being stopped and now keeps running into read errors

Hopefully, the read errors are not from physical damage.
These are the steps that you need to take, and the instructions on how to do it:
1. Reboot into Safemode
2. Run a virus and spyware scanner
3. Defrag
4. Scandisk
5. Registry error repairing
6.Reboot into regular mode windows

Here is how to do it:
Reboot yor machine while holding the F8 key right as it boots back up. A menu will apear. Choose -->"start windows in safe mode with networking".
Windows will start in safe mode. Run an AVG virus scan, then run Defrag by exploring your computer, right click on C: drive, click PROPERTIES, then the TOOLS tab, click the "check now" button, and both checkboxes, both 'fix file system errors', and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" then click ok, the computer will then tell you it will scan upon next reboot (which upon reboot will take about an hour). Now click the DEFRAG NOW button. then choose defrag. After Defrag runs for about an hour and it is finished, restart the system. If is still won't run normally, go back into Safemode buy pressing F8 on reboot, then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot again. If it still won't run right, you may want to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows and see if that works. If reinstalling windows doesn't fix it, it is definitely a hardware problem.
PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND KEEP A COPY NEAR YOUR SYSTEM FOR FUTURE PROBLEMS. THIS SERIES OF STEPS CAN FIX MANY PROBLEMS
Good luck.
James.

hi there, i to have an iomega external drive, have you tried to disconnect the cable, i.e.. the usb cord and restarting the computer and pluging in the hard drive itself back into the usb slot.....if yes i am thinking, another thing is, wha operating system are you using, if it is vista and you restarted the computer with it pluged in you must restart it without the iomega plugged into the computer, when an external drive is plugged in and the system resatrts vista recognizes it as an internal drive and tries to reboot from it....i am not sure why vista does this, it happens to me and microsoft says it's a protection thing, from hacker hardware components......so all usb things should be replugged into the computer after vista has started with just the regular things...microphones and such are ok....just things with mass storage are what need to be unplugged and replugged into the computer after reboot....hope this helps....shia
