Hello

There are 3 ways depending on the model of your laptop.
Here follows all ways:
1. Hold down the escape botton while booting your system.
Press F1 when you get to the check system message.

2. Hold down the F2 button while booting your system.

If none of the above works, follow this. For not listed models.

The BIOS cannot be accessed via boot up on these systems. To make changes to the BIOS setting on these models please use the Toshiba Hardware Setup utility located within Control Panel. The BIOS settings can be reset to their default valies by booting the system up and holding down the‘Esc’ key, then press F1 to reset to default settings when prompted.
Really hope this can help. Please rate this.

Best regards.

Can't install new OS

you need to install directly from the vista disc when the computer is powered on, put the disk in and it should ask you to press any button to start from cd..

if not then the computer is not set to start up from a cd, you can either enter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you power up the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press in order to enter boot menu, it will very likely be button F12 or similiar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesnt, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first. the computer should say what button to press to enter bios or cmos or setup when its turned on

after that you should be able to start from the cd and install the OS (Operating system, eg.Windows)

heres some info on how to work the bios: http://www.whitecanyon.com/how-to-change-boot-order.php

ones you get into the vista setup you can empty the hard drive, getting rid of windows xp and then install windows vista over it.

Let me know how that goes,
Thanks,
Ekse

The laptop wont start, just getting blue screen

If you are getting a Blue screen repeatedly and you can't start up towindows in any custom setting ( from f8 start up menu ) one way tosolve the problem is to Use the restore disc or windows installation cdor dvd to installwindows into the computer or perform a repair installation if a windowsalready exists on the computer and the setup can find it.

how to perform a repair installation

this is for xp, but its similar on 2000 and on vista.

insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.Whenthe Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

ifnot then the computer is not set to start up from a cd, you can eitherenter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you powerup the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press inorder to enter boot menu or bios, it will very likely be button F12 or similar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesn't, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first.

after that you should be able to start from the cd and install the OS (Operating system, eg.Windows)

here's some info on how to work the bios: http://www.whitecanyon.com/how-to-change-boot-order.php

Repeat step 1 when you have changed the boot order.

2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

7.Oneswindows is working you will need the drivers for your computer, theyare at the makers website, for hp and compaq. www.hp.com for acerhttp://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads.html for all otherbrands go to google and write Brand drivers. Should get you to theright place. Dell is most likely www.dell.com and so on.

I AM HAVING TOSHIBA SATELLITE L45 S7423 LAPTOP WITH VISTA . I WANT TO INSTAL XP IN IT. I TRYED BUT I AM GETTING THE ERROR THAT IS "SETUP DID NOT FIND ANY HDD IN THIS COMPUTER". I TRIED THIS IN OTHER WAYS...

From my experience with Vista, it's no wonder you want XP back.
One thing about Vista, it uses a different way of setting up the drive. Most easy way to format what you have, first check what brand it is. Go to the maker website and they always have a dos version of the formatting tool to format the drive. You will need a windows based PC to burn to a CD. Once that's done. pop the CD intothe DVD/CD drive and restart the PC. Most likely the makers left the boot order as follows Floppy,CD/DVD then Hard Drive. Most do not.
There's a F10-F11-F12 or so key to press to enter boot menu.
Whe you find and hit the keys for it, select the CD/DVD drive to boot off of it. It will run off the CD/DVD image and then let you format the drive to what you will put on it, Like XP

Let me know

Installing XP on Toshiba Portege R500 Notebook

Guys, if you have the genuine XP CD, please download the Storage Driver from Intel and slipstream it into your version of XP CD. You can also slipstream Service Packs into it as well.
Personally I hate Vista so much. It really brings out the angry devil in me.
By the way, the best and easiest way to slipstream is to install and use nLite http://www.nliteos.com/
Let me know if you want help on installing XP on R500 (I build it a few days ago, but regret to update the BIOS to version 1.06 as I lost the Ctrl key on it).
To get to the BIOS, press and hold the Esc key then Power button.
