Won't take pictures.

The problem you are describing is a problem with a sensor that is behind the lens cover door on the front of the camera. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $83 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Camera doesnt remain on

Based on the age of the camera, it's most likely due to the battery just losing its ability to hold a charge. After several years, the battery will just cease to accept a good charge, no matter how long you leave it charging. I'd suggest a replacement battery from one of the "aftermarket" battery makers (only because they are about half the price of the original Olympus battery).

Olympus Stylus 730 shuts off after few seconds. Battery is fully charged, tried a resetting: no change.

To save battery power, the camera automatically goes into sleep mode and the monitor turns off if there is no operation when the camera is turned on (when the lens cover opens and the monitor is on). No picture is taken even if the shutter button is fully pressed in this mode.
Operate the zoom lever or other buttons to restore the camera from sleep mode before taking a picture. If the camera is left for 15 minutes, it automatically turns off (the lens cover closes and the monitor turns off). Press POWER to turn the camera on.

Broken camera

It is likely that your lens assembly was knocked out of alignment when you dropped the camera. When things do not line up inside the lens the whole unit cannot move in and out. This malfunction requires disassembly to fix, so you will have to get it to a professional for repair. There are providers online who can repair your camera, and also check with your manufacturer to see if they can service the camera at a reasonable rate. David Millier Advance Camera Repair

Lens will not come out of camera

There is a workaround for this problem, when the lens cover is open press down on the area of the lens cover on the "s" of Olympus. This can operate the switch that opens the lens etc. The long term fix is to remove the lens cover by removing the 2 screws at the base of the lens cover, take the lens cover off and gently clean around the switch which is behind the "s" of Olympus when the cover is on. I found that the grease/oil Olympus had used on the switch attracted dust etc and by cleaning this off the camera began working. Be careful when taking the lens cover off, there is also a very small metal plate that separates from the lens cover - don't lose it.

Can view memory card but wont power up to take pics

Try using brand new fully charged rechargeable batteries like NiMH or NiCd. Also try viewing though the computer via USB.
