Are you using HDMI? If so, the set may be misreading the signal as being DVI. Try running a stereo pair of audio cables to the RCA jacks associated with the HDMI input.

It might be the cable, try to borrow a cable from a friend and see if that works , if not you ll need to get a whole new motherboard since the video card is built in the motherboard.
Did you say you went in to DVR set-up and checked the component out audio option? I have had similiar problems with motorola dvr boxes and once I was able to enable audio output option the dvr digital output was fine. Find the manual for the model dvd and this may cure.
you will need to have this repaired , it may only be a small component or two that are failing , but this does seem like one of the common component failures , testing and or research will need to be done
Had the same problem with a new "Insignia" hd set and my Sony receiver. Went to the TV inputs, scrolled thru the selection, which included the HDMI option. Choose it.................problem solved.
Resetting the tv by unplugging is definitely a good idea. dusting doesn't hurt either, because the dust can sit on the circuit board. when the dust heats up through use, it can cause damage to the circuits that unplugging and replugging won't fix :-)
If it is latest tv check you have changed blueback option in menu(available in some model), then check the given source cable is proper. Suppose if it is old model there is dry contact in solder points. Otherwise make one general service by authorised service provider.
