Xerox 8830 - 2 Drawers / Trays non-operational

I have an 'elderly' Xerox 8830 which stood idle for some 6 months but was recently re-commisioned by a Xerox engineer.
My problem is:
2 of the 3 media drawers are not useable. Symptoms are as follows:
1. The respective orange 'fault' lights flash continuously on the control panel for both top and bottom drawers
2. These 2 drawers show as 'Media Empty' in settings, in spite of there being paper loaded into both drawers & with the correct paper width selected.
3. When these 2 drawers are opened and closed, there's some nasty noises eminating from the machine - I think they may be clutch related.

Any ideas on how I can make these 2 drawers operational again?

We're currently only able to use one drawer for paper (media) supply into the machine. I'm concerned that if this last drawer fails, I'm knackered!!!

Any help you can offer would be very much appreciated.

I would suggest to have the proper service rep work on it. albeit pricey if you want it to work correctly have it professionally serviced.

Sorry i wasnt finished when I clicked.

    1. Since it is making noise, I seriously doubt it is a clutch problem. If the clutches were not working, they would be slipping and would not make noises.

    2. Since you are getting the media empty message with a noise, sounds like the actuators that detect the paper in position are not in place or missing. Since you have a properly functioning tray look to it for reference. But there are, actuators that hang down in the trays to detect paper in the trays. The combination of not detecting the paper and the noise leads me to believe that those are missing.or the sensors are out of position. Start there in looking for the problem. That sounds most likely that issue.

    3. Other issues, that can cause noises as you describe are the gears and drive pins that engage and life the trays. Also make sure the plates that the paper is loaded onto pivot up and down freely.

    4. Also after sitting for a long time, be sure nothing has made it behind the trays stopping them from sliding into the machine properly. There could be something behind them blocking them from being pushed totally into operating position. Your flashing lights are simply because the trays are not detecting paper.

5.Make sure also that there are no obstructions that are not allowing the trays to raise up.

    6. Once you get the noise and empty tray issue resolved, use a cloth and soapy cleaner , aka fantastic or a like cleaner and throughly clean the rollers. May have to clean them more then once to remove all the contaminant from them.

    7. A suggestion, since you have not used the machine for a while. Remove the power, and disconnect the plugs and connectors to the trays and reset them so that you have good connections. Maybe even connect and reconnect them several times to clean the contacts.

From what you are describing, the empty message and the noise, the problem you are having is related to the detection of the paper and over drive by the components raising the paper to the rollers.

Let me know if this doesnt help I will dig into the documentation to see what else it could be.

I have a Xerox 7356 Scanner which continually says: Not Ready on the display. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem or where to go on-line to research troubleshooting?

it is likely the lamp.
Easy fix.
Buy a new lamp at a good lamp supply store. Type F32T8 SPX41
Make sure the back plate is white and re-normalize the cameras.

If you get the "NOT READY" message only after you insert an original
then the problem is likely the motion sensor.
