Get a wireless router and usb dongle for the second computer. Establish a home network and connect the wireless desktop to the existing cable modem via the wireless router.

Sounds like your modem is in a provisional state. Walled garden is simply a tool to provision a modem..... a way that a cable or ADSL company uses to verify that the equipment is associated with a paying customer. Call your ISP if you are unable to access anything past that page via a browser. Chances are your provisioning record is lost, your modem has changed, there are too many devices connected directly to the modem, or there are other account issues such as nonpay status.
Before you call... Check your modem connections, most companies will not allow two IP addresses to be issued to one piece of equipment (modem) without an extra fee, some companies will not allow two devices to be connected to a modem at all. If you have a device connected USB to the modem and another device connected through the ethernet port...disconnect one. I suggest going Ethernet and using a router if you wish to have more than one device connected to your modem.
Make sure the modem that worked yesterday is the one you are using today. If you've recently replaced your modem, you may need to call your cable company to register the new modem. One modem = one instance of service.
Check your bill due date. If your bill is past due, you may need to satisfy the past due balance before being allowed past the walled garden.
may be you are using the wrong RJ from the modem to pc. Check with RJ45.. Else if you are using wireless modem.
I suggest you switch off pc
Remove USB cable to modem
Start computer
Uninstall all drivers for the modem and software. Delete network settings.
Install software without inserting USB cable untill it asks you to insert
I guess you can follow from there and get details from ISP how to log on and password

if the router is already set up the usb dongle software will need to be used to connect to the router to allow a connection without the need for a cable as the dongle will see the wireless signal
Hi sheena -Is your desk top hooked up throgh the router? If not, plug your modem into the wan port on the router. The router should have come with a couple of short cables, most likely blue and yellow. Use the blue to connect your modem to your router. You can check the manual just to be sure. Use the ethernet cable that had been connecting your desk top to your modem, and plug into one of the wired ports on the router. I imagine you'll be using wireless for your laptop. Make sure that it is on. Put the cd in your desk top and run from there. Follow the directions. If you need more help just add a comment and I'll be glad to assist you further. I have heard of people doing it. However, you will need to pay the cable company for an additional line / service, as the MAC address of the modem has to be registered with them in order for it to work.
You can purchase a usb wireless dongle and attach to the PC. From then onwards you can set up a wireless network without connecting the usb cable for the router. The dongle will enable wireless capabilities on the pc. The only thing left is to have all devices running in the same workgroup.
Your modem should have a RJ11 (phone) jack and a RJ45 (ethernet) jack. Phone line-in to modem RJ11. Ethernet cable from RJ45 to modem to router; maybe labeled WAN or modem port . Ethernet from any of the switch ports (or the only one avail, depending on your model) to you pc if it has a ethernet card in it. After that it's all up to the configuration.
