I have a kenmore 2406028. My husband was pulling laundry out of it when he lost his balance (it in a tight space) and fell partially on the door. He did not fall completely on it, and it still moves but it will not stay shut.
Is the latch and strike still intact ? If it is, you should hear or feel a distinct "click" when closing the door. if that is ok but the door simply won't stay latched, I'd suspect a bent door or hinge assembly. if it isn't ok, you can get a latch and strike in a kit #279570, the most common kit for kenmore/whirlpool dryers over the past 30-35yrs. or so. It will also work in most other makes too. your unit may also have a "spare" latch built into it for door reversal, but not the "strike". you may be able to straighten the door or hinge by removing the door and examining what's bent and correct it. either way, you need to first identify what is bent/or out of alignment.
hope that helps
good luck.

The latch and striker where my first suspects to. But I removed the door from it hinges. Then I just shut the door. It clicked and stayed. So I pulled it back off the dryer.
I inspected where the hinges mount on to the door. The metal there had bent. So I got a small flat tool and my rubber mallet, and banged them flat again. Reassembled the door to the spring loaded hinges. It is good as new.
