GE Dryer has gas smell inside.

I don't think the problem lies with the dryer, I would suspect the washer has mold, this is especially true on front load washer, they make products designed just for this problem, check with a large retailer, not sure who makes the mold and mildew remover, I think Home Depot or Lowes may have the product or know about it..

Check for lint buildup in the vent discharge hose/pipe and the inside of the dryer blower housing.
Heavy wet lint buildup will cause a moldy/mildewy smell that you describe.
Heavy lint build up will also increase the drying time, and it is a fire hazzard

gas has an oderant added to it and in your dryer in the cool down it allows most of the gas to be removed.if you smell gas when the dryer is off and empty, then you have a gas leak.thanks karl

Yes it could have been the lint igniting in the bottom of your dryer in future clean lint trap after every load and take trap door out and vacumn inside trap at least once a month If you ignore the lint trap you could end up with a serious fire so take care of it when you remove screen a certain amnt of the lint falls down into the bottom of dryer and after time a buildup can ignite.. more serious with a gas dryer as the igniter and burner is at the bottom of most gas dryers

I highly recommend opening the dryer by removing the front panel.
Unplug the machine, remove the front cover and be prepared to vacuum out the lint build-up inside the housing of the dryer.
Also clean the exhaust duct of lint buildup too.

you smell lint heating up,when is the last time you had your lint trap,lint exhaust,and wall lint hole cleaned out,that is your problem(very unsafe could catch on fire inside the dryer,let me know-mike

Lint buildup inside the unit can cause all kinds of problems. Have it taken apart for a good cleaning and inspection. A dryer fire is no fun.

you can unplug the unit , and reomve the lower aces panel (3 screws along the front bottom of unit) youll probalby see an excess of lint built up in which case you can vacuum it out, and then check/clean and or replace your dryer vent

you need to clean out you venting ...it is most likely clogged or filling up
