My GL2 only works when I turn it on to playback mode. When I try to turn the camera on in camera mode, it doesn't work. What could the problem be?

There is a simple solution to that... You see under the 'card-tape' switch? There's the red button for recording... attached to that button the is a switch that says 'tandby or lock'.... if you have it in 'lock' it will not let you go to record mode, you have to change it back to 'standby' and that should solve your problem.... Anymore question just e-mail me at [email protected] and I was wondering if you had a copy of the installation CD I can buy or have.... or maybe you could tell me where to get it? Thanks.

You've probably got your camera in Lock mode. Make sure the switch by the record button on the side is pointing to Standby and not Lock.

I loaned my camera to someone. Now the viewfinder is black, however it is recording. I just can't see what I am recording.

It is set to read a tape, It is set to standby.

Does the sd card for a cammon gl2 have to be formatted

Yes, it does and should be done in the camera and each time you download the images just to keep it in best operating condition. Switch to VCR/Playback mode and reformat the card from the menu option (see your manual). Also note that if you're having issues with the camera reading a card be sure it is one that can be used and does not exceed the GL2's maximum card size (though I don't recall what that is).

My canon gl2 lcd screen and viewfinder black

Same thing happened to me. No display, no menu, no S-video output while in camera mode, but in VCR mode all was OK. Turning power off and on did not help until I also disconnected the AC power adapter. BTW, Mr. Riggins did not read the question before he answered.

I am experiencing a problem with playback. A few times I have tried to play the tape to capture and the counter will not work and the screen stays blue?? I used the head cleaner on it and it played...

This is usually caused by a severely oxidized video drum. If you 've tried running a cleaning tape through the camera with no results the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified technician.

Canon Gl2

Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera. Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)
