My flash won't pop, Why? - Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera

Theres a button on the side of the camera with a lighting bolt on it push to open leave lens cap on to test then go to menu look for flash/ bracketing and set to open

Try a factory reset. In the menu go to the third spanner and select 'Clear settings'

To pop up the flash put the camera in manual mode (M) and press the flash release button and it should pop up.

Had the same problems several months ago. I will try a search the forum to find the nice labeled directions to solve the problem. This is not a major problem and can be fixed yourself.

Was the camera impacted? Sound like the flash up switch if always closed. Remove battery. If you carefully remove the flash cover (two screw underneath) by first inserting a business card under the flash on the rewind side (yeah, we haven't come up with a better term!) at the back and slide it forward freeing the flash down latch), and do not touch the flash tube as there is 300 + volts across it if it is charged!

Look at the pivot for the flash on the release button side at the back, you will see a small switch. the top part may be under the activating rod - reset it above the rod and it will now work properly

Once again, be careful - there are 300 volts across the flash tube if it is charged

The flash solinoid is faulty,must be replace

i was having the same problem. tried to use the built in flash, it makes clattering sound about 3 times but it won't pop out. Then the error 05 occurred. This is what u should do:
1. open the flash manually by your hand ( carefully ).
2. Then u can see 2 tiny black screw ( u have to unscrew it ).
3. Then open the upside cover of the built in flash.
4. See a screw on the left side? Loosen it a little. Thats it. :)
How simple is that? It work for me. Sorry for my bad english. Haha
