There are 2 distinct method 1) Black has a bladder 2) Color contains sponges - we need 3 sirenges with needle to fill the Color cartridge with sponges - simply punch
COLOR CARTRIDGE
1. If you see the Cartridge turn it round and locate the filler holes by removing the plastic top cover of the cartridge. You may need to pry plastic top or hole cover off using a thin metal blade. please make sure that you do not damage the sensors on the back of the cartridge whilst doing this.
2. Using the picture(on the cartridge which shows you the 3 differed colored spots), fill syringe with the corresponding color ink.
3. Insert the syringe into the correct hole of the color being filled and push all the way down. Notes : You will feel resistance as there is a sponge inside.
So Slowly inject approximately 8ml of ink until you can just see the ink surface on the top of the sponge, any more and it is over-filled. If this happens simply draw back on the syringe a little.
4. Rinse the syringe and needle thoroughly before proceeding then repeat the process for the other colors.
8. Re-attach the cover securely with adhesive tape and continue using the cartridge.
BLACK CARTRIDGE
1. Fill the syringe with approximately 20ml of black ink.
2. Push the syringe all the way into the filling hole and SLOWLY inject all the ink into the cartridge or until the reservoir is full.
3. Replace the cartridge and run 1 - 3 cleaning cycles as per printer instructions.
4. If necessary leave cartridge in printer for up to 24 hours. (This allows ink to flow to the print head).
Color Cartridge
1. Place the cartridge over somepaper towels in case there are any spills.Remove the label sticker from the topof the color cartridge.
2. Drill into the three small holeson the top of the cartridge to widen them so they will allow syringe needles.
3. Fill a syringe with 6 mL ofmagenta ink. Insert the needle into the refill hole that is located below thetwo protruding rectangles on the top of the cartridge. Slowly inject the ink.
4. Fill a syringe with 6 mL of cyanink. Insert the needle into the refill hole located below the large rectangleon the top of the cartridge. Slowly inject the ink into the cartridge.
5. Fill a syringe with 6 mL of yellowink. Insert the needle into the refill hole located below the small rectangleon the top of the cartridge. Slowly inject the ink into the ink chamber.
6. Replace the cartridge into theMX310 printer.
Black Cartridge
1. Set the cartridge on some paper towels.
2. Drill a hole into the dimplelocated directly above the semicircle on the top of the cartridge.Fill asyringe with 20 mL of black ink. Insert the needle into the hole and slowlyinject the ink.
3. Replace the cartridge into theCanon MX310.
In order to replace the ink..please follow the following steps
#1 Spread out a piece of newspaper where you plan to work. Remove the supplies from the refill kit. The Lexmark 44 will have one bottle of black ink, one thumb drill and one syringe. The Lexmark 43 will have one bottle each cyan, magenta and yellow, three syringes and one thumb drill. #2 Remove the label from the ink cartridge. The black refill hole is at the top of the ink cartridge. Use a toothpick to check the color of each fill hole on the color ink cartridge. Generally, the magenta is at the top of the cartridge, the yellow is at the left center and the cyan is at the right center. #3 Use the thumb drill to open up the fill hole to fit the syringe needle. Place the tip of the thumb drill on the fill hole and twist until the hole opens up larger. Do this for each color hole on the color ink cartridge. #4 Fill each syringe with 7 ml of color ink (one for each color) and 15 ml of black ink. Insert the syringe needle into the bottle of ink and pull the plunger upwards. #5 Place the tip of the syringe needle into the fill hole. Slowly press down on the plunger. If the ink seeps out while filling, stop filling the cartridge and wipe up the ink with a paper towel. Some cartridges may not need the full amount of ink. Repeat this step for each of the colored ink fill holes. #6 Replace the ink cartridge in the carriage of the printer. Run one to three test pages to cycle the ink and check the printing. Use any document with color on it for the Lexmark 43 and any document with black text for the Lexmark 44.
I love to give the answer for your question but we don't know which printer model you are talking ? Following the the common procedure for refilling the Ink Cartridge

Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Apparently, if you hold the "resume button" (the one next to the power button) for about five seconds after you get the message saying to replace the color ink cartridge the machine starts printing. I did this after I went to "maintenance" under "preferences" and changed ink to "black only." At first that alone did not work, but after trying the resume button for 5 secs it worked okay.
filling up the ink cartridge of the printer will cause an issue that the printer will be damage.HP ink are very unique and designed to be able to attain the good quality of print..filling up inkcartridge will make the warranty of the printer to be VOID...
as u have ran out of ink you cant print anymore... you have to replace a new ink cartridge.... this is because when u print something, the colors will get mixed to print the exact color.... even if u are printing only in black, some other colors wil get mixed to produce the black color on the paper... so u need to change the ink cartridge.... u cannot run with a blank filled ink cartridge.... and the selection of your printer is very good...
First off you need to re-set the IC on the cartridge, for this you will have to purchase a Chip re-setter, google it on the net or check here for links
filling the cartridge is easy, but you need to get the right ink or you will mess up the printer head, normally when you order ink it will have the instructions, avoid kits that tell you that their ink is universal
The cartridge cannot be filled from the bottom, looking at the top of the cartridge almost directly above the were the ink comes out, you can see / feel an indent in the plastic label, stick the needle / filler in there - it should take about 6 - 8 ml of ink - you might find it better to try and fill the cartridge by facing it up, so that the ink can flow to the back, do it slowly, take a break if need be, you will be able to judge when it is full.
The Colour carts fill the same as the black, the colour code is correct on the original cartridge - Blue, Red Yellow (not like the sneaky HP carts)
