Kenmore l900l /Janome 9000

Helllo, I just found you and I am hoping you have an answer for me...I have been using my kenmore l900l ( comparable to Janome 9000 , Janome contracted to Sears to produce these for Sears) for a good while now and for the most part have enjoyed it, a workhorse! BUT, my computer crashed so the family bought me a new computer but it has VISTA on it and now the Scan N Sew box won't talk to the computer to transfer designs. The problem seems to be that Vista restricts COM ports 1-4 for its own use and the scan n sew can only talk on COM ports l-4. In other words my serial port is on com 6 and the scan n sew can't understand com 6. We've installed a port mapping program to temporarily resolve comport 6 to comport 1 and the scan n sew operates fine this way but the program is $l00.00 and of course I don't want to purchase this....do you know if there is a newer program for the scan n sew that is compatible to Vista? If not do you know of any tricks to modify the scan n sew software?

My computer does not recognise the scan'n sew. I have new computer which uses the com plug for the moniter and has usb for additional hardware. i bought a serial plug to usb adapter but still does not work. what else can i do

Thank you to all who posted, I have ended up getting an older ( free from freecycle) computer , monitor and tower and installed the program and can now access the designs and transfer them to the scan n soft and send them to the scan n soft card then inserting the card into the sewing machine and off we go...I appreciate your help. I have another issue with the machine --it works great thanks---the display panel and the light on the machine keep blinking and at times they actually go out , the machine keeps running even tho I have "blackout".... the Sears repairman in Maryland said it will cost 600.00 to fix this as I need a new board...is anyone aware of another source to fix this problem for less? Thanks, pat

Call the people who made your computer (hp, dell) and ask for a down grade to XP and that will solve most all your problems that you will have with vista. vista has built in things that you will not be able to run alot of your programs on.

Finding equivalent

I can't seem to find a decent picture of the Kenmore 385.16120200, but from the replacement parts that I can see, it may be close to this one:
http://content.janome.com/index.cfm/Machines/Sewing-Quilting/2212
Or maybe:

Janome is an excellent brand, and any Kenmore built by Janome is going to be just as good, but a little less expensive. However as the Kenmore sewing machine line seems to be hard to find even used, and if you are considering buying a Janome, I would highly recommend a few features to you:
Drop-in Bobbin, One-step Buttonhole, Automatic Needle Threader, and maybe (depending on your tastes and preferences) a few electronic features like Needle Up-down and Push Button Stitch Selection. If at all possible, go into a shop and try before you buy. Hope you find what you are looking for!

What size are the bobbins for the memory craft 8000? I've compared the class 15 to my original bobbin but the class 15 has a ridge that my original doesn't have...the class 15J is more like the...

You need a bobbin like this:
10_10_2011_1_01_34_am.jpg
You can puchase them from this link
http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbins-janome-kenmore-elna-102261103.aspx

Janome have one standard plastic bobbin that fits almost all their models except
1600P, 1600P-DB, 1600P-DBX and MB4.
So if you see packets of plastic "Janome" bobbins for sale they will be the right ones.

How do you scan a pattern into a scanner memory card for a Janome 9000

you will need the old scan and sew that came out with the machine. they are often on ebay. I had one for the 8000, but found the pattern very primitive compared to the discs you buy.
These days , you may be able to get some software that allows your computer to convert images to .SEW, which is apparently what these janome machines uses, but I would do some research about this first

Janome memory craft 9000. I can't find my book and I don't remember how to rewind the bobbin.

Hi
I found this on the Janome site but it is only a partial maunal so not much use
http://www.janome.com/documents/File/ManualFile/MC9000.pdf
Try looking at the manual for the MC10000 as it may be similar to your machine and is more complete.

Sewing machine maintenance, walking foot & free-motion foot

Is this a Janome MemoryCraft 9000? (I ask because the models seem to get mixed up in the threads)

If so, you can more than likely find accessories for the MC9000 either on eBay, your local Janome dealer (you can find the closest one to you @ Janome's website using the "Dealer Locator" feature) or even ... SEARS!

Sears contracted Janome to make several of their sewing machines (I think Janome might still be the actual manufacturer, but aren't 100% sure) and so the parts are compatible. You can even use a Kenmore Memory Card with a Janome MC9000.

As for oiling, if it's the MC9000 (much like practically all newer models) they don't need oiling. Though sometimes, you can dab a teeny-tiny amount of oil on the bobbin case if it needs it.
