download from hp this driver to your my_documents folder and install the software for the driver... then restart your computer

does this work... solution

or goto start > control panel > system > device manager show up

look at your audio device in the list... does it have a yellow explaination point.. no driver installe

a red mark mean on the audio device means that the sound chip is bad... and you need to ship the board to a repair shop ... or rma the laptop for repair if still under warranty

also go under the bios to be sure the sound is turned on .. there sometimes is an option to turn off the sound functionality

My compaq presario v3700 windows xp laptop audio is not working.

I see that your Laptop was not pre-installed with XP, it was with Vista. Installing XP on it, will be a downgrade which is not recommended by them (HP). In HP Laptops, there is always trouble making the device and drivers work with retail version OS.

Anyways, I got the audio driver for XP, you can give it a try....

The Audio is a High definition Audio and we can not install the Audio driver ditectly without installing the UAA (Universal Audio Architecture) driver in Windows XP. So, first install UAA driver (restart) then install Audio driver (restart).

UAA driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33566.exe

Audio driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32864.exe

Audio & video is not working

You downgrade from Vista to XP right?

Installing your audio drivers on XP:- ***important
You have to install the "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp33867)" first, before intalling the audio drivers Conexant CX20549-12 Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows XP (sp41836.exe).

If you reverse the procedure your audio won't work.

Hope it helps.

No audio on my newly installed xp software

If you can see an error in device manager its means the audio driver is not installed. You need to installed the audio driver. The audio driver is in the CD installer of your motherboard.

IMPORTANT: Audio drivers may fail to install in Windows* XP 64-Bit Edition. Symptoms may include error messages, such as "Error in installation" or "Unknown error". Microsoft's Update for Windows XP x64 Edition (KB901105) fixes this issue. After installing this update, the audio drivers for Windows XP 64-Bit Edition will successfully install.

Cannot find media device driver

Your Notebook is installed with High Definition audio card which XP cannot recognize by default. Installing Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) will allow XP to recognize High Definition audio cards.

Download the Microsoft UAA drivers for Windows XP form the link:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe

Restart the Notebook after the UAA Drivers are installed.

Now, download Conexant High Definition Audio Drivers for your Notebook for XP :

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34386.exe

You should be able to install the Audio Drivers without any issues.
