Which "sub level" are you talking about? dB? or gain? either one, you must open your am and check the variable resistors ("volume" knobs) with a multimeter

I need to know what colors go where in harness

A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you. I suggest that you purchase a wire adapter for your vehicle so as not to cut factory wiring.

No sound from front speakers during CD operation.

I think you are using an external amplifier,if this is the case, you may be using the wrong remote wire for the amp.
Alpine use two blue wires,BLUE (only) this wire is for the pwr antenna and every time you insert a cd, this pwr line cut out.
BLUE/WHITE STRIPE this is the remote wire that you need to connect the remote of the amplifier.

Older Alpine car stereo light problem

It's probably a solder in lamp. They can tend to be very tiny. About the size of the head of a paper match or smaller. If you're not good with soldering then I would suggest you go to a repair shop and let them do it. Good luck.
