Question about Toshiba 32A33 32" TV

1 Answer

My tenplus year old Toshiba 32" TV is stuck in standby mode

Whether I use the remote or on-set button. Set worked fine when I turned it off last night, but the power button just blinks today and the screen remains blank. Is there a button on the remote that I might have accidently pushed last night. Help, it's an old set, but I can't afford a new one right now.

Thank you,
Carol Lang

You have an old tv so the best problems are bad capacitors and bad grounds. Have someone pull the board and search for high voltage caps [160volts or 250 volts] with 1 to 4.7 microfarads. Should be two or maybe three and check all grounds. If the 4 amp fuse is good than the above will save your TV.

Am having the same problems. The TV is on standby (red light on front) but wont turn on from the remote or from the side of the set. This can last 1 or 2 days, then it works fine again for another week,...

There is a problem with the power switch board, there might be short in the IC Unit , you might have to change it. get it serviced by a TV electrician soon before the board gets damaged.

Bush 32 inch Tv is stuck on standby and 2 year old has broken the remote control. The tv is set up for child lock so pressing the buttons manually is not helping. Have just purchased a universal remote...

If you unplug the power cord, let it sit for a minute and plug it back in, it should let you turn the tv on by the button at least once. Then you can at least get the remote linked up. Please reply back to your post if this resolved the issue. I would rather you try this first before going further.

I have a toshiba tv with a broken power button

Generally the power button has to be on first to put the TV in standby mode. If you cant do this no remote can ever work. Remotes are not capable of turning on a set that has no power mechanically turned off. and that is what the master switch does. once that standby light is off it is not live and consuming power and not under the control of a remote anymore

Can't turn on

When you turn the MAIN off you are killing all power to the set---Some advice---If you Google the model number of this set with the word problem after it you should find what I have seen a lot in these sets: they develop bad solder connections on the power supply printed circuit board---usually the board is about 18 inches tall and 12 inches wide--A number of sites online offer to have you ship them the board and they will resolder it for you.
I have repaired about 12 of these with this problem in the last 2 years---The board has to be removed(there are quite a few plugs that need to be labeled and removed and lots of screws that secure the board in place.)

Maybe not a job for a do it yourself person but the soldering (if it is your problem) will take about 45 minutes(including removal and installing board back).

Like most modern sets this set uses lead free solder and it is soldered(the boards) in a wave or one step process---over time from heat and expansion some connections may crack or even break loose----I would look at the POWER SUPPLY board(follow the power cord as it goes right to it)

Universal remote works for basics but won't change input

Rich,

good day , what button can you see infront of your TV screen?

Not familiar with this model but if you'll manage to locate a button marked as "TV/AV" or "AV" press this button until it the display switch to A/V mode (audio/video). Or if this is a really old model, from Tuner mode or channel model. set the channel station to 1 then press the " - channel " button and see if it will change from tuner mode to A/V mode

cheers,

Remote problems and now FPA locked

In the worse case:
It is very possible that the remote recieve on the set has gone defective. It is also possible that there is a fault with the processor in the set, and the remote signals are not being responded to.

As for your universal remote, I don't trust them.

Did you try changing the batteries in the remote? Make sure the new ones are actualy in good condition.

If you can not turn on TV set with the power button on the TV its not a standby problem as this would by pass the standby. Theres most likly, on a set of this age, top have a poiwer regulator problem and is going to need a trained tech to assist you in this repair.
