My router drops connection when I try to add security

I recently purchased a Belkin N+ router. When i connect directly to the modem at my desktop, the router works fine and stays connected. If I try to add security (WPA) the internet connection drops. Any suggestions. I have had this router for over a month and I have been on Belkin support line for hours without a resoltuion.

Did you try to upgrade teh firmware of the router ? that could be a probable solution . Also try to change the channels in the router. Make it to 6 or 11. Sometimes that could help
Thanks Ranjit

Ive connected my belkin device to may desktop. Now im trying to connect my ipad to my modem or the belkin..but getting no where lol Ipad finds the modem but say 'unable to join the network'. Any ideas...

which belkin device have you connected to your desktop? The ipad will be looking for a wireless network to connect to. So you will need a wireless router to allow it to connect, also the modems ethernet cable needs to plugged into the wireless router and IF you have the modem connected directly to the pc to allow it to connect to the internet , then you need to connect a lead FROM the router to the PC

Reset my belkin router now i can't connect to

if you truly reset your router then you may have to reconfigure it. If your belkin router is also your dsl modem or cable modem then you will have to call your ISP provider and get your user id and password to start with.
I have a feeling this device does double as your modem since you now cannot connect. Most routers will work as a router right out of the box. However if your modem is seperate then it may expect your router to have a different subnet for its IP address then the default. Try plugging your computer directly into the modem if that is the case. If it works then just reset the routers IP address to be on the same subnet.

We have followed instructions but canno connect.

I usually find that the security code you setup is the most common cause of this problem.

Try setting your security as WEP and use only numbers for your code

Trying to create a bridge with two routers

You do not need a bridge if you are using a wireless adaptor on your pc in the other room. Just set up the Belkin Plus router to the WEP security settings you want and make sure the pc wireless usb adaptor has the same settings as the router. You should be good to go. Good Luck.

Belkin Modem Router not connecting to desktop

The wireless security on your router might be enabled.

1. In the address bar of your Internet browser, type "192.168.2.1". Then press the "Enter" key.

2. It will prompt for a password to access the Router’s Web-Based Advanced User Interface. By default the password is blank.

3. Go to Security, then Wireless.
- Check the wireless security settings, this should match the settings on your wireless computer.

4. On the wireless computer, you should detect SSID and if wireless security is enabled, connect to it with the correct security keys.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Problems adding new MAC address

Ok... this is an easy fix..first, turn off all the equipment including any laptops with wi-fi. then TURN ON YOUR MAIN ROUTER FIRST. Secondly turn on the cable modem..be sure its connected to the already turned on router. This will establish the router as your address the cable modem will set up as the main mac address. Then go ahead and boot up any other routers, and computers and wifi... That should keep everything connected because the router will delegate all the addresses to everything and the modem should remain "happy" with the router addres..

Let me know if this helps... and if you need anymore help.

Belkin Wireless G router

If you're computer is slow in the internet connection because of this router, that will be cause by the router since this device has a built in firewall inside it and the speed of internet that you have before when directly connected to your modem wont be same ecause of that, and there's no way you can add up a memory on this router, if you want try to update the frmware of the router and that will help in speeding up the connection....

Hope that helps........

I have purchased a belkinf5d8233uk4 and have trouble connecting to virgin broadband as cable from virgin into modem is screw in can you help

you still have to use the modem from virgin, mine is setup the same but with a different router, you have the virgin rounter connected to the wireless router then the belkin wireless rounter connectes to you pc instead of the virgin router, your gonna have to log onto the router and setup some security to make the connection safe from others using it.

Belkin router and modems

i would suggest returning the router and/or purchase a modem router, as it does away with all the connection problems and the need to click dial to connect as a modem router is always on and does not require a main pc to be on. It will also probably be cheaper than buying a seperate modem.
