We have a Gallery model refrigerator/freezer. I opened the freezer this morning and everything was covered with excessive frost.

Thank you for your post, friend!
I see that you are receiving an excessive frost buildup on the inside of your Frigidaire refrigerator. I would check the gasket to very it is sealing properly. You can do that by using a dollar bill. Place the bill between the body of the fresh food and close the door. The dollar bill should stay in place and pull out with a small amount of resistance. If the dollar bill falls out when placed between the gasket and cabinet then the gasket may need to be replaced. I hope this information has been beneficial. - Matt

I am getting frost on all items in the freezer

Frost is a sign that your gasket seal is leaking and sucking in air somewhere. Put a light inside and check around the seal of both doors at night...you will see where the leak is, usually near the corners.

Everything in the freezer is covered with white ice crystals. what is wrong with it?

Check the "defrost coils". Refrigerators are not basically frost free. We don't see the frost these days because there are electrical wires oround the internal cooling coils that come on with a timer at night to get rid of any humidity that the coils collect as frost. The timer may be in the rear bottom of the fridge. Old timers may remember the early refrigerators that were always frosted up. Problem is most likely your timer. Also , does the door shut air tight. Humidity that gets in will freeze

Frost forming on top of inside door by hinge

you probably have an air leak. if the gasket is bad it needs to be replaced. Air could also be coming in through the door flap if you have water and ice dispensor on door

Ice builds up inside packages in freezer.

This is the moisture coming out of the food. It is what causes freezer burn.

The problem is made worse in frost free models by the defrost cylce. Best way to slow it down is to use vacuum bags or freezer bags. Also above 0 F food deterioates faster and below it gets freezer burn and the moisture problem faster.

Ice build-up on the inside top of of freezer door

This is a problem that the factory has released a bulletin on.They have released new hinges, and insulation for inside the door. So far I've only seen the bulletin for Kenmore upright freezers made by Frigidaire. Since it is a Kenmore the bulletin is a Sears Service Flash but the units are identical. For sears its SF46-517. They may extend the service to Frigidaire units but you'll have to contact Frigidaire about that.

Frigidaire frostlfree upright freezer ice forming top interior door

Not sealing. warm air hitting cold air causing frost. also, door frame heater may not be working. most frames are "warm" to the touch. normally called an "anti sweat" heater.

Fridge problems - frigidaire

Sort of sounds like the adaptive defrost board is bad and you are not going into a defrost cycle. Do you have ice build up on the lower interior freezer section? Are the vent slots full of frost/ice? Ideally, pull the freezer shelfs out and take the little aluminum panel off the interior back to look at the coils. Are they basically a block of ice and frost? The problem happens when the unit doesn't go into defrost cycle and the coils freeze up. That blocks the air flow in the freezer so you get frozen food at the bottom but soft stuff at the top. And the frige just can't get enough cool/cold air from the freezer section to cool anymore. Power surges or blackouts, etc. can just destroy the defrost circuit board. Without good air flow the unit is not going to cool properly.
