ipod touch ? if thats the case you have to plug it into your computer using the usb cable.. open itunes and click restore ( it is then up to you if you want to add a password after itunes is finished. ) if itunes dose not detect the ipod or you are having trouble restoring it then make sure you have the most resent itunes installed then hold down the home button and power button at the exact same time and keep holding them. you will hear a ding sound and ipod will turn off, keep holding the home button but leave go of the power button when you hear the ding sound.now keep holding the home button untill you hear another ding sound ( this is the ipod powering back up but screen will be blank ) you can now leave go of the home button ( screen will be blank ) but itunes will see the ipod and say "ipod detected in dfu mode, you must restore " click restore ( if you leave go of the home button before the ding sound you will see the apple logo...if you see the apple logo you have missed the chance to get into dfu mode so do the steps again .. dfu mode is the best way to restore any apple device
the white dash is a command cue and it is waiting for you to enter a command for the laptop to proceed
when you switch the laptop on , hold down the delete key until the bios screen appears
go to boot tab and check where the boot priority is
it should be first priority , hard drive
if not make it the first priority save yes and esc.and shut down , then reboot
First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.
Do you get the Dell logo when first turned on? if yes this indicates hard drive trouble, but if there is no logo the problem will be motherboard, first remove one ram memory stick, if no change remove second piece and replace the first, no improvement it is time to have the motherboard assessed.
After the logo flashes, press F8, repeatedly, until a white-over-black "boot menu" is displayed. Choose "Safe Mode", to see if this "minimal" version of Windows will startup successfully.
You can contact this companies regarding data recovery. The "Genius" was wrong about the drive being retuned to Apple, that will only occur if you have a system under warranty, and you would be returning it to Apple to avoid being charged.
As far as replacement hard drive going for $325, that too is pretty steep, see this link:
