My internal Microphone on my Dell Latitude C400 does not work anymore.
First noted in Skype, my webcam program and also the microsoft sound recorder. I checked the settings, and the microphone settings/configurations are correct. Tried an external microphone (headset), still no sound is recorded or transmitted. It's like my PC has forgotten that it has a microphone.
What changed? the only thing that I can think of is that I downloaded a new version of Skype just before this happened.
Any idea? [email protected]
I have tried to record with both iMovie and the Toshiba webcam and the sound cuts out on both frequently. I need clear audio as these are for a class and I will be docked points if the professor can't hear clearly. What should I do? I have check to make sure the correct speakers are on, sound is appropriate, mute is off and I am still at a loss. I am thinking I should quickly go and buy a external microphone?I have tried to record with both iMovie and the Toshiba webcam and the sound cuts out on both frequently. Yes, sometimes Skype messes with your hardware settings and sets it up to what "skype thinks works best", if you have System Restore turned on, try going back to the time before you installed that version of Skype.
Also, look in your Device Manager settings for anything screwy.

SKYPE MICROPHONE PROBLEM If the person cannot hear you then, either your microphone driver not installed or not working OR the microphone is not configured in Skype. To test your microphone then click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound recorder. Then record your voice and then play it back. If this is OK then the microphone need to be configured in Skype. To configure the microphone - Open Skype - Tools - Options - Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.
I haven't set up Skype before, but it seems quite reasonable that if the Sound control panel is set to use the external microphone, that would work. Have you checked to see if the sound input is set to an internal microphone built into the laptop, or a line-level input? That could be your problem, especially if no such microphone is present.
Please check if the webcam is detected in the device manager, if yes then follow the step's below.Skype

Checked on the Latitude D410 and it does not have a internal microphone ... the microphone connector is located on the right side of the laptop near the back ... you will need to purchase a separate mic to get this functionality ... these are fairly cheap to purchase
This is what we call a "NO POST" problem. You need to contact Dell Tech Support for this to narrow down the issue to a part. This could be caused by any part that is not letting the computer to power on or boot up. Note: You may need to tear-down the computer for this issue whe call tech support.
