Computer won't start

I have a dell dimension 5100 desktop that was working fine yesterday. Today when I push the button to start up it does nothing. I have checked the power cord and it is fine. The surger protector is fine as the monitor and speakers are plugged into the same protector. Have also tried other outlets with same result. Any suggestions?

    Hello,

I have the same problem with my sisters computer.

The PSU is working when i short-circuit two of the cables on the connector to the Motherboard, A green led is lighting when the power is plugged in. but it wont start. I have taken out and put in the ram again, and taken a look at the other components than may have been loose.

The voltage into the house may have been flickering somewhat due to some high power electrical engines being run before we tried to start the computer.
Could this be a cause, and if so, should the psu still be working?

    What is the led indicating?

    Thanks for any possible replies.

My Dell 5100 starts sometimes and not other times. If I take the usb keyboard & mouse out and replace it starts. The green mother board light is on. The clock also loses time. Any thoughts anyone ? ASC

I have a Dimension 5100. I pulled out the Hard drive to back it up and then put it back in. Now it won't start. The PSU tests good with a tester. There is a green light on the motherboard. I pulled out the modem and unplugged the USB keyboard and mouse. It simply won't start. What the heck?

I unplugged power from computer, removed motherboard battery, after all excess power was gone... ie green light went out, I plugged power back in, got a fast flashing amber light on front of computer, pressed the power button once, and after about 1 to 2 minutes the system came on, of course the bios stuff was gone, as well as date and time, but seems motherboard is working fine, now I dont know what to do.... possible bad bios chip???

Can you see a green light on located on the mother board ? I had the same problem with mine right after the warrranty was off, The mother board failed, But you should make sure thats it first by making sure everything Inside of the computer is tight and secure.Unplug and make sure there is no power on and unplugged,Before you touch anything inside your computer discharge any static electricity by touching the metal on the inside of the tower. The Memory modules Make sure that they are pushed in securely in there slots and video card is Pushed in and tight, and any other extras you may have plugged into it, After you do all that put everything back and try to reboot see if that get you up and going. If not let me know I can Help You fix it or repair it myself if you would like, just leave message here or email me. [email protected] Happy Holidays

After start button is pushed several low buzzes is heard

Better check that power supply & where it plugs in at out. Also, make sure all the connections are plugged in tight inside. Never assume that a replaced part is good & if you went after-market for the power supply, don't go super cheap. Buy a good one with a good warranty & the same if not more juice than the original.

Where do I find the eject key to eject a cd from my Dell studio laptop?

Hi,

There should be a button on the DVD/CD drive itself, just push that small button and the tray should eject.
If you can't fine the button double click on "Computer" or "My Computer" highlight the DVD/CD in the list, right click on the DVD/CD and select "eject" from the list.
The tray should now eject.

Computer will not turn on at all. Dell Dimension 5100 desktop

I would unplug the power supply from the motherboard, wait a little while and then plug it back in.
Try to power everything back up and it should come up.

I am assuming you are getting a light on the motherboard that indicates power is being supplied?

5100 problem

Hi

To help you troubleshoot a problem, your computer has four diagnostic lights labeled "1," "2," "3," and "4" on the front panel. When the computer starts normally, the lights flash. After the computer starts, all four lights display solid green. If the computer malfunctions, the color and sequence of the lights identify the problem.

Reply with the Power Button light and the Diagnostic lights color and sequence for further assistance.
