Will not start at all

I've had my vacuum cleaner for about four years and it worked great. All of the sudden it won't turn on - nothing. I changed the bag, but still nothing. Any suggestions?

Which vacuum would you prefer for pet hairs ?

I've been repairing vacuums over 30 years, I prefer a bag vacuum because a good bag vacuum is a lot less maintenance, all the nasty stuff goes in a cheap paper bag (which is actually just a really good great big cheap filter) which you simply remove and gently sit in the trash. It usually takes less than 30 seconds to change bags and only needs done about once a month. You will dump a dirt cup about 40 times compared to changing one bag. Bags compact the dirt while bagless fluffs the dirt. Bagless filters and dust compartments need frequent cleaning and replaced at least once a year to work properly. Bagless vacuums leak more dust and dirt which you will notice on your vacuum. In the long run its much easier and cleaner using a bag vacuum plus they usually last much longer, usually outlasting 3 or 4 bagless vacuums. Much less expense and hassle in the long run.

My Miele S3141 canister began acting strange this morning. No suction...so I took off the hose and checked for blockage, (nothing). Now I can't get the hose back on the canister. It just slips ar

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Air filter:
If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up dirt and has no suction the air filter might be clogged. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
Exhaust Filter If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the exhaust filter might be clogged. Remove and clean the filter, replace it if its torn or damaged.

Vacuum Hose If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum hose might be clogged. Remove the hose from the vacuum cleaner, stretch it out straight, shine a bright flashlight in one end and try to see light through it. If no light can be seen, use something to run through the hose and free up the obstruction.
Vacuum Bag If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum bag might be full. Clean or replace the bag as recommended by the manufacturer.

Dust Cup AssemblyIf the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the dust cup assembly might not be installed tightly, or it might be cracked or broken. The dust cup must seal tightly in order to produce the right amount of suction. If it is cracked or broken, replace it. Most glues and adhesives will not successfully seal the crack.
Blower Wheel If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and there is no suction, the blower wheel might be jammed or broken. Check the blower wheel to be certain it turns freely. If it doesn't, check to see if there is anything rubbing against it. If not, but it's hard to turn, the motor is most likely the problem.

Where is the belt located on my hoover steam shampoer

There is probably not a belt. The brushes on the carpet cleaner head and attachments work from air and there is a roller bearing deep inside that will wear out and the brushes won't turn. I've found no way to fix this. I consider it a design defect.

Is there a manual for installing new drive belts on my LG Kompressor - we've had it for less than a month and the belt broke. I ordered 2 replacement belts and the new one doesn't work and the brush won't...

You've probably figured this out, but my luv200R had the same problem. The belt broke, I changed it and it still didn't spin the brushes. Turned out, the roller has bearings on either end and one of the bearings was bad and wasn't letting roller roll. So the pulley would spin against the belt and heat up and break it again. I took the bad roller to Sears where they had a new one sent to my house free of charge since it was less than a year old.

My electrolux oxygen vacuum cleaner shut off and will not turn back on. It's less than a year old, but I bought it off Craig's list--they were the orginal owner and they said they bought it in May of 2008....

No..Electrolux is really great about warranty service. They will help you even though you are not the original owner. http://smallappliances.electroluxusa.com/files/usa_english/0-999/OxygenOwnersManual.pdf owners manual. Here is a link to the site.
http://smallappliances.electroluxusa.com/node82.asp Also, you might check for an obstruction. The Electrrolux is thermostatically protected. Means that if there is no airflow through the motor, the motor will shut down before overheating can occur. Remove your hose from the cleaner. Drop a quarter down through it, did it come through? If not, you have a clogged hose. If it came through, remove your wand from the power nozzle, look througfh the wand, is it clogged? Now, look at the power nozzle, can you see light through the elbow? Your cleaner will come back on after it has cooled. Try the machine. It should be working now. I hope I could help to Fixya! Please let me know if I helped you. Thanks, Rene (the Vacuum Doctor)

Kenmore 33721 does not start

Same thing happened to me. After taking the cover off I noticed a wiring diagram on the inside cover. There is a fuse between the on/off button and the motor, sure enough the fuse had blown. There is no mention of a fuse in the manual! The vacuum works great again.
