It's most likely a defective magnetron or a bad connection at the magnetron terminal.

The GE bulletin on the magnetron kit can be found here to see if yours is one affected:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/ge_mw_mag_kit_bulletin.pdf
You may have a loose and tarnished connection at the FA terminal of the magnetron.

If so, it needs to be disconnected, tightened, maybe burnished or sanded, and reinstalled. If it still won't work, the mag is bad.

But before you do anything, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site,http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

The capacator maybe bad. The 2 parts that cause that are the magnatron and the capacitor. the capacitor can be checked if it is shorted than that is the problem, if not its the magnatron.

Oven works fine but microwave suddenly not heating anything. Have turned on and off at plug. Suggestions please?

If the unit has stooped heating, odds are the magnetron inside the unit has failed. This is the part that makes the RF microwaves that does the heating. They only last for so long, You aren't saying how old the unit is or how much you use it, but if it is an older model, or you use it heavily, or if it was ever subjected to a major arcing incident (metal in the unit), any of these can bring the unit to its demise.

Seeing as microwave ovens, depending upon you desires, can cost as little as $50.00 US, and can run upwards of $500.00 US or more for deluxe built-ins, you may just want to consider a new one.

My 10 year old GE Spacemaker XL1400 microwave has stopped heating the microwave's contents.

probably a magnatron failure
take it to an appliance repair shop for a proper diagnosis and get a quote as repairs can be more expensive than new unit

I Have a GE Spacemaker over the stove microwave. I think it is 1000 watts. It's 7 years old. Everything works but it doesn't heat anything. There is 23 volts going to the fan unit in the...

HELLO.

Since there is an amount of volts from the outlet, the fault is from the microwave breaker.

The solution is given below.

Reset the microwave breaker.

Take the back cover of the microwave off with a screwdriver.

Inside you will find a motor.

Most microwave motors have a small red reset button on them. Hit that button.

Your microwave should work again if the breaker was the issue.

Thanks

Buzzing sound... Turntable stopped. food heats up but uneven. No microwave fan when heating.. no light inside expensive fix?? Unit is 10 years old

If the microwave oven is 10 years old then it is time to consider a new unit, by your description it is going into cascade failure where different parts have stopped working, the buzzing sound is the magnetron warning you, it is about to fail. The fans job is to keep the magnetron cool while it is running.

Microwave run but dont heat

The running sound is only the fan. The heat comes from a magnetron which is the primary part of every microwave, Sounds like the magnetron is dead. If it's a newer unit (1 to 3 years old) it should be covered under a warranty. Contact the manufacturer for repair or replacement.

It runs but does not heat. last nite used the speed defrost now it won't heat for anything made a noise while on speed defrost

sounds like the magnetron may be gone on it. this creates the heat. if the unit is older, it's not worth repairing, but if newer, check you manual for the warranty. some mags have 3-5 years warranty.

Turns on but not heating food sounds a bit louder

Hi, this is common in most microwaves. this abnormal noise is coming from a faulty Magnetron. this device is responsible for the heating process and, it is damaged and not heating at all at this point.Simply replace the Magnetron and, this unit will start to heat once more.

I can home to find that the microwave was beeping as it does when it finishes cooking. I opened it and it was empty so I fear that my 89 year old mother was running it for some reason and it was empty. ...

No health or safety issues there at all. Just lucky it didn't overheat and damage the magnetron tube (Safety wise - the unit has several heat sensitive thermal fuses that will shut the unit down if an overheat situation occurs)
. If the unit still heats and functions normally everything is just fine.
