Nothing happens My SimpleTech 250GB suddenly stopped working. It was working fine, but then the next time I started it up, nothing happened. I tried plugging it into my old laptop, but before I even turn on the power, it gave me a warning of power overload.

same problem - sounds like the western digital drive is working - can the drive be removed and checked out by installing it as an internal drive to a desktop?

You may not be able to fix the same. You have to find a chip level repair shop

Kleenmaid CH600CE ceramic cooktop stopped working

U sure power is getting to cooktop ?- chances of all burners not working and/or going bad at same time is ridiculous.
Get out your VOM and start tracing the voltages back to point of inception.

SimpleTech 250GB External Hard Drive can't be recognized

First of all,

uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option in the device manager for USB Hub Properties, Power Management Tab.

Try rebooting the computer once as C:\Windows\inf\INFCACHE.1 file may be corrupted and need to be replaced (either restore a previous version or just delete it and try connecting again).

Next, completely uninstall all USB devices and the main hub and then re-install.

My computer wont read my Simpletech 500gb hardrive

SimpleTech has problems with their controller board. The HDD inside probably still works fine. You might want to get an external chassis and take the hard drive from the SimpleTech and put it into the external chassis. You will need a sata one.

Computer doesn't recognize the external drive

I asume the connection is via an USB?
Try another usb-port and see if that helps, if not try to connect the disc on another PC (maybe a friends pc) and see is that pc recognize the disc.

Good luck!

SimpleTech hard drive not found by my computer

This may or may not help, but it worked for me! After about 4 hours of trying everything (Device Manager/Uninstall, Disk Management, etc..) nothing at all would work. The USB external hard drive would power up but when you plug it in, the New Found Hardware will pop up and search unsuccessfully for drivers for a PLUG AND PLAY external drive!?!?!

In any event, I simply plugged another USB drive into my laptop (and desktop) and viola! The new hard drive was recognized and installed immediately as 'plug and play' should do. I then unplugged the new drive and tried plugging in the one that was recognized and all of the sudden....IT WORKS AGAIN!!!!

This fix might not help anyone who doesn't have a second USB external drive, but you could try plugging another USB device in and get it to load and then unplug it and try your drive. It worked for me on my laptop and then I did the same thing to my desktop (which also wouldn't recognize it) and it worked on the desktop too! Problem solved for me, thank GOD!

Hopefully, this bypass can save you a few hours of google time and unwanted anguish. Like I said, you may not have another USB drive but try plugging in any other USB device until it loads and then unplug it and then plug in your USB drive that wasn't working. It worked perfectly for me.

Hope it helps!!!!

SimpleTech hard drive not found by my computer

if you are running windows, then check the following:

go to control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> storage -> disk management.

you probably have a drive (located on the bottom right) that is listed with no drive letter, just assign it a drive letter and see if it comes back, if not, the drive is probably not initializing and you might have to either format it or replace it.
