Dryer turns on but does not spin

Maybe a broken belt. Maybe a bad door switch. Maybe a bad motor. Maybe improper voltage. Maybe thermal fuse.

Most likely it is the thermostat. It may also be the motor, but usually you will hear humming of some sort. There is a small thermostat on the blower housing that usually goes bad and presents the situation listed.

First...just as a reminder that electricity can kill! Unplug the dryer and slide it out so you can get to the back of the dryer. Remove the back panel. Plug the dryer back in and observe the dryer in operation. If the belt is broken you have your obvious answer. If nothing happens then UNPLUG the dryer again and reach in and remove the belt from the motor. Plug the dryer back in and attempt to run it again. Does the motor spin? If not, dead motor. It is not the thermal fuse because you say it heats up. Take a look at this video for additional help.

who is ned? there are no relays in this model. check the switch near the idler arm.. 1-12 here....

There can be many reasons why your dryer will not start or turn...

The most common causes are the belt breaking or jumping off, or the motor going bad...

Check to make sure your child lock is off first. Hold the time and signal buttons simultaneously for three seconds. Unlikely, but do check. Some of these dryers have a safety switch that the idler pulley has to engage to allow the dryer to run. I tried to find a schematic for this model but could not get one to tell if you do have a safety switch. Look at the arm of the idler pulley and see if it is contacting the switch actuator correctly. When a belt breaks or pops off, sometimes the arm of the pulley will move to the other side of the switch actuator and will not allow the dryer to run once a belt is reistalled. I would also look to see if a wire was knocked off of the motor switch when your belt came off. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

most likely a broken belt. There is a micro switch on the tension pully that opens when the belt breaks preventing the motor from spinning when the belt breaks.

don't know the brand but check the belt(some models have a switch so if the belt breaks the motor wont run)

Since your dryer is "new" it is under warranty. I will explain the possible reasons why it will not spin. Then you can decide whether to make the warranty call or not.

Belt Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.

Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

• Remove the belt.
  
  
• Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.
  
  
• Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.
  
  

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.

If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.

Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
