You can see Windows Media Player 12 only supports M2TS file which is encoded in MPEG-2 codec. So if the codec of your files in AVCHD folder isn't MPEG-2, Windows Media Player 12 certainly won't play them. The first solution I offer for you is Shark007's FREE Codec. This codec will make Windows Media Player 12 much more powerful and support many file types which isn't read by MMP 12.
From the other side, in order to play AVCHD files in Windows Media Player 12(or lower 11) successfully, we could transcode them to .WMV which is the most compatible format for Windows Media Player 12/11. Here I recommendPavtube Video Converter for you. This App can not only convert AVCHD files to WMV format, but also transcode AVCHD for editing in Windows Movie Maker. It also has a built-in video editor to let you do many editing work.
If you want to know about more video converter on Windows, please review Top 10 Video Converter Guide. There is also a Mac version(Support El Capitan), if you need it, please turn to Pavtube Video Converter for Mac.
How to Play AVCHD files in Windows Media Player
Step 1. Launch this App. Click "Add Video" button on the top menu to choose your AVCHD files.
Step 2. Then click the format bar and follow "Common Video" to choose "WMV3(WMV9)(*.wmv)" as the proper format for Windows Media Player 12/11.
Step 3. Start converting files.
Click the "Convert" button in the main UI to start converting AVCHD files to WMV. When the conversion is over, you can find your videos by clicking "Open" button.
Now you are able to play AVCHD files in Windows Media Player 12/11 with no problem. Enjoy!

I have a TV hour-long program and would like to produce TV show with Sony Vegas Pro 8. Unfortunately, I have difficulty inputting MTS files from Panasonic HDC-TM700K to Sony Vegas Pro 8. Vegas Pro 8 does not recognize the MTS files from a new HDC-TM700K camcorder with 1920x1080/60p (1920x1080/50p for the model in Europe).
I searched for MTS conversion and find Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter the perfect which gets the HD videos editable in Sony Vegas Pro 8. I convert MTS from Panasonic HDC-TM700 to MPG, and edit with Vegas Pro 8. The output video and audio sync perfectly and there is no choppiness.

I had the same problem as you did. The software that comes with the
camera saves my videos in m2ts files. I have no way to play it on my
computer and edit it with windows movie maker.
Then, I searched google and got iskysoft video converter. It works like a charm when converting avchd files to avi, mpeg, mp4, mov, etc. and yet yields good quality.

SOURCE: Can not upload the AVCHD files
Hi, i just got the GF-1 and had the same problem.
I live in canada, but purchased the unit in HK.
What i did was when installing the software, when it prompts you for your location pick a PAL region like Australia.
Now i can import my videos =)

Easier solution. Your record setting are on AVCHD best for playing HD on TV. set your camera to HD JPEG and you can watch it on your PC and save it aswell through software provided. Also if you want to save recording that are already on AVCHD just conect to a DVD recorder and record it to DVD or use free software like Media Classic but I prefer not to add too many media software products as they can cause conflits and more problems
