If you're talking about the single screw that holds the upper handle to the body of the vacuum.. I replaced mine with a 4mm x .70 thread pitch. 40mm thread length.
It sucks that noone will tell you the thread specs on this screw. But, they're willing to sell you this screw for $8, with another $8 for shipping.

Hoover quick & lite carpet cleaner stopped spraying solution. What can it be

Hey, this is Jeremy with Crucial Vacuum,

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties with you Hoover Quick & Lite. There are a few different things we can try to fix your hoover and get you cleaning again.

1. The sprayers may be clogged. Over time they will get clogged with soap and mineral deposits. This is a natural thing to happen, so don't fret. Fill you tank with a solution of half warm water and half vinegar. Let the mixture sit in the tank while the vacuum is running for awhile and then try to spray solution. This should loosen up anything clogging the sprayers and allow for a consistent flow of liquid.

2. Your handle may mot be attached properly. To fix this remove the 2 screws at the base of the handle on the back of the vacuum. Check the control arm inside. Make sure they are aligned properly. Below I have attached a video showing you how exactly they should look.

3. The clean water solution tank is not installed correctly. Make sure the tank is attached firmly to the gasketets and nothing is out of place. Below i have attached a link to your vacuums manual which has diagrams for exactly how the tank and unit should fit together.

What size screws are needed for the bottom plate of a Hoover U5061-900, the screw part number is 012-21447121

Any coarse thread screw about 1/2" long will work. There's no real "threads" inside, its just cut when they put the screws in at the factory.

Just replaced the belts on my Hoover Windtunnel II self-propelled vacuum. The brushes are now turning ok, but the self propelled feature is not working. Squeals when when you lock it in the upright...

Check the plastic part, which the the self propelled cable is attached to. (release the handle, tilt it back. You should be able to see the cable attached by a screw to a black plastic arm.) It is either broken or the cable is lose.

Hoover Z700 the mechanism that closes off the vacuum behind the agitator brush will not open.

You will need to take the top off. It is easy: turn the vacuum over and look at the bottom (where you can see the beater bar). There are some deep screw "wells"; these are the screws you need to take out plus the 4 silver looking screws that hold the beater bar plate in place. When you bet those out, there there will be a "notch" at the front, behind the LED light you will have to disengage. Turn the vacuum back over and take the gray top off. You should be able to see the engagement latch that is attached to the handle. This is what opens and allows the flap to shut. It has a spring attached that may have come loose. Good luck.

Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel U6436-900 cable problem

The flat belt should be changed if it has been longer than 9-12 months. Next I would remove the upper handle to inspect the top section of the control cable, sometimes it fray's and has a sponge feel (no positive control) to self propel. To set this adjustment, it is best to do withthe hood off of the lower section. I would also look at the cable jacket in the foot to make sure it is under the metal clamp. It must be under the clamp to work properly. To get it under the clamp loosen one hold down screw at the top and one in the back of the vacuum, remove clamp screws and put jacket into position and then secure all screws. Now set the adjustment, Install upper handle and set self propel to off. loosen cable from arm in foot with torx screw. manually move arm until the clutch is off both drive pads. This is a visual adjustment. then secure and reassemble vacuum.

Handle broke off just above the four screws that attach it to the body of the vac. Hoover does not list parts for models that are more than two years old. The vac operates perfectly but without a handle my wife cannot use it, where can I find a part replacement. Easy to remove four screws and replace. Don’t want to drive 100 or more miles to find an authorized repair shop. Oh yes, this is a Hoover Preferred Wind Tunnel Bagless

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. You have all the information needed but I would contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer and they may have a good used one or they may stock a new handle for your you or they can ship you one If you live too far from a factory authorized dealer. The vac shop that I worked in always had good used parts for ½ the price and it worked just fine – the only difference was the color and for the handle that would not make a difference in the performance and your wife could use the vacuum again. Also Hoover can ship the part to you providing they have it in stock. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Replace interior hose for cleaning attachment for...
Posted by castcomm on May 29, 2008
How do you dismantle handle to replace aforementioned hose?
Swing arm on unit goes all the way to the floor. Is this normal? Is there a "stop" broken that caused the hose to stretch, and ultimately break?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover SteamVac Carpet / Upholstery Deep Carpet Cleaner.

There are handle screws that you can get into the handle and then you can back track the replace the interior hose for the cleaning attachment. There should not be a stop that caused the hose to stretch ad break. The hoses after a while do get old crack and break due from normal use or if the bend @ sharp angles, this is common among all vinyl vacuum cleaner hoses. You should really check with your local factory authorized Hoover vac dealer in your area or , please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Water flow issue

The attachment hose is likely coaxial - meaning that it is a vacuum hose with the water supply line running through it. It is likely that the vacuum (outer) hosing is damaged. The attachment will still spray, but will not vacuum. if you lay the handle section all the way down and look inside the unit, you will probably find the problem.

if you haven't already gotten this fixed, simply remove the two screws on the bottom of the handle. Inside is the cable; please make sure to unplug your vaccum first.
