When we set our machine to normal wash, it will fill with water at the appropriate temperature, agitate for about five minutes (during which time the door lock light will turn on), and then stop. At that point the power light turns off, followed by the door lock light. When we click one notch more, and hit start, the process repeats itself. If we turn the timer to somewhere after light, and press start, the machine will agitate (door lock light back on) and proceed through its cycle all the way to rinse 1. After about five minutes on rinse, the machine will shut down, followed by the power and door lock lights as before. One click more and pressing start, the machine will pump out and begin to spin. The timer will then advance to rinse 2, agitate for five minutes, then shut down as before. Another manual click to the spin cycle, and pressing start, the machine will cycle through to rinse 3, and the earlier process will duplicate itself. Once the timer is turned to the final spin, and pressing start, the machine will spin at various speeds, I assume in order to redistribute the balance of the clothers, and finally shut down. Things we have tried: cleaning the pump and hose (no issues), new hoses and checking the filters at the input from the hoses (clear), a new (used) timer--same symptoms as with the original timer, and a thorough check of the control board near the timer for any burn marks, especially around R11--it's clean. What's our next step?
Are you able to see the serial number? It should be on the same tag as the model. By your symptoms and description it sounds like it may need a conversion kit or upgrade kit that was fairly common with the Neptune. The kit upgrades the firmware with the lower board and motor.

Possible bad tooth in the timer gears. Replace the timer. Be sure to take a few snapshots with a phone in case you get wires mixed up Mark same color wires and replace them one by one. (BE SURE TO UNPLUG UNIT BEFORE CHANGING TIMER!)
Testimonial: "We've tried a new, albeit used, timer, and it runs exactly the same as original. It stops in all the same places and advances in all the same places. All the symptoms seem to point to the timer, but what's the likelihood of two timers being bad in the same way? The wires are easy, as all 17 end up in one plug. Thanks for the reminder to unplug the machine."
Have you tried to unplug it for a few hours?
On some wash cycles it does not include draining and some wash cycles require the drain
phase to be started manually especially If the REDUCED WRINKLES function has been activated: To complete the wash cycle you need to press the START/PAUSE button. Do you have your owner's manual?
We'll try unplugging the washer. The machine has been set to "Cotton/Sturdy." The only setting that might change how the machine operates is "Hand Washables" where the machine will tumble for a short time and soak. Would the "on" light and the door lock light remain on even during soak periods? We have the manual.
We left the machine unplugged for a few hours and tried again. There was no change in the symptoms.
Installation of a new main control board solved our problem.
