I have the same issue

I just bought this LaCie BigDisk Quadra 3TB and I'm having trouble having Windows XP 32bit detect it. It shows up fine under Hardware Disk Drive in system properties but I can't seem to get Disk Management to see it.
I tried using EASEUS Partition Master, which sees the drive as unallocated but when I tried to partition it, I always get this error: Unable to update system.

Win XP will not be able to recognize whole 3TB storage drive. You need to use some kind of 3rd party utility and then partition it and format as well.. AS a note win xp size is limited up to 80-100 GB.

Actually, the drive is probably compatible with Windows XP under the proper conditions. First, you probably need to install software that either came with the drive or that can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website that allows Windows XP to see the full size of the drive or you need to get a 64-bit version of Windows XP (called Windows XP x64) to get around the limitation of a 32-bit operating system such as Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional both are. Once you have taken care of this, you should be able to see the full size of that 3TB drive. Another option, of course, is to modernize and get a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 (whether Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate). I do not recommend Windows 8, however, as it has a number of compatibility issues with both older hardware and various programs, not to mention the fact that the interface is a real mess to try to use.

Also, be aware that a 3TB drive will not actually show up as 3TB to the computer. The reason being that hard drive manufacturers have taken to using base-10 numbers to size their drives rather than using base-2 numbers as has traditionally been done. Thus, a 3TB drive will have 3 trillion bytes of storage available but a 3TB drive actually formats to only 2.72TB according to the way the computer reads it because there are actually 1,099,511,627,776 bytes per terabyte rather than just 1,000,000,000,000.

Doesn't work

am not so sure if this is a similar issue with iomega2_bing.gif external drive in which the drive wont show up on My Computer but when the external drive was plugged into an ubuntu machine the drive was being detected and working just fine.

Please try to do the same. plug your external drive to an ubuntu machine and lets see if it can be detected. If it is then the hard disk has a similar issue with iomega drives. check this link for the solution.

I am trying to format my lacie 4big quadra raid drive for FAT 32 so that I can use with Mac and Windows. My windows machine won't recognize it so I am not able to format and use with both Mac and Windows....

You cannot format a 4GB drive ALL under FAT32, it is NOT mathematically possible IT will be possible to Break Up the drive into Partitions, and then Format them FAT32. You need to keep each partition under 1GB.

Lacie Big Disk Quadra 3TB won't work with xp-32bit

One way around is to install Mac Drive on your system. First you format your hdd in HFS+ on a mac platform, with any size you want. Then, after you installed Mac drive on your PC, it will work.

Two units conflict when connected thru Firewire 400

Windows XP and most pcs running it does not natively support firewire,as it was developed by Apple computers. Most Firewire ports on PCs are 4 pin. Your PCI card ( and I take it, its a desktop youre referring to ) should have a 6 pin connection. Firewire connections also have a 7 watt supply via the bus. You may need to open the computer and see if the molex jack on the card is being powered by your computers power supply. Two firewire drives, especially the power hungry Lacie quadras, may be to much consumption for the card. Hope this helps.
