I can hook up an external monitor, but the internal dispaly is blank. I don't think that it is the lamp, because I don't see the images at all. If the backlight were out, I would see them dimly.
I have replaced the inverter, and still have the same problem.

Most laptops have a "toggle":
* output video only to internal LCD screen,
* output video only to external HDMI port,
* output video to both internal & external.
Have you tried pressing and holding the "Fn" key and then, while still holding the "Fn" key, press the "F4" key? This toggles between the internal and external displays. There are three settings. The internal LCD only, both internal and external displays at the same time and external display only.
sounds like the internal video card has a direct feed problem, it plays on external. while screen is hooked to external check control panel for main screen dianostics. You have to live with it untill it fails altogether. Internal video is starting to fail. time for new laptop
I think it is the inverter to the screen that is bad. I will be trying that to see if it corrects the problem. I think the lamp is good as I do see some (very low) light at the bottom of the screen.
I think this is already a hardware problem, it could be your LCD or your systemboard, try connecting an external LCD or monitor thru the VGA -out & check if you have a display. If not, it might be your systemboard that's causing the problem & this may require service.
I've had a similar problem. I took apart the monitor (it was out of warranty by that time anyway) and found the lamps would not stay on. They'd flash for a split second before remaining unlit. I tried hooking up another LCD monitor's lamp to the Samsung, and even though I knew the other lamps worked fine, they exhibited the same behavior. Looks like something's wrong with the circuitry. The LCD actually does display the desktop on screen correctly. It's just the lamps refusing to stay on.
