The green light with "CR3J1" beside it on your Dell Dimension 4700 is most likely an indicator for the power supply. The "CR3J1" is a code for the power supply model number. The green light indicates that the power supply is functioning correctly and providing power to the system.
If you are experiencing any issues with your system, it is recommended to contact Dell Support for further assistance

Bought a dimension 4700 at the local goodwill and am having trouble getting it working

It sounds to me like the on-board HDD controllers are dead. Have a look at the motherboard... I'll wager you'll see a fried capacitor right in the middle. Common Dell failure :(

Green power light comes on but disk drive lights keep blinking and my screen is black on my dell dimension 4700

Remove ALL media from the machine DVD, CD, USB, etc. Check/reseat all Monitor cables. Reboot. If that fails, unplug , plug back in in 30 seconds or so. reboot, if you get a Dell Logo, Open the boot Menu and select Boot from HDD first.

I have a Dimension 4700 and it will not boot more than half the time. So I did a clean OS install and drivers, updated everything and it was working great. Tried to turn it on this morning and the same...

If you have a Dell, then do this the next time.

As soon as you see your system creating problems again, turn to the back of the computer. There are 4 LED lights. See the status of those lights, I mean, green, orange etc. Check it on support.dell.com and see if you find something useful.
