TCL 43S425CA - stuck on set up loop. Do I need a board replacement of any kind?
My tv is less than 3 years old and stuck on the setup page. It will just loop over and over when it gets to the software download point in the set up. It shuts off and goes through the loop again to that point.

You have EEPROM issues, that's an ic on the main board, you can replace the IC if you have good soldering skills and the equipment to do it and just a soldering iron and solder won't do it, other option is replace the entire board and that's the route I'd advise as the IC is very small and hard to replace without the proper gear. If you decide to replace the IC, message me back and I'll pull service info on your set and get you the IC number and location on the board

If your TCL 43S425CA TV is stuck in a setup loop, it is likely an issue with the software or firmware of the TV. Here are a few things you can try before considering a board replacement:
Power cycle the TV: Unplug the TV from the power source, wait for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Update the software: Check if there is an available software update for your TV. If so, update the software following the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Factory reset: If the power cycling and software update do not resolve the issue, you can try a factory reset. This will erase all of your settings and return the TV to its original state. Check the manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
Contact the manufacturer: If the issue persists, it may be a hardware problem and you may need to contact the manufacturer for a repair or replacement.
Note: It's always best to check the manufacturer's website or manual for the latest troubleshooting information and support options. Before you decide to replace any board, make sure that you have a warranty for the TV or if it's an old one, then it may not be cost-effective to get it repaired.
Testimonial: "Thanks for all the options. The TV is out of warranty so I have not called TCL but I have tried all the other steps and unfortunately, there’s no change."

Where did you buy your boards Zack? If it was ebay it's very possible you've received bad replacement boards. 3 things will cause no backlights, missing BL_On signal from the main board, inverter board issues (this is part of the power supply) or defective LED backlights. Your original main board has a bad EEPROM, the boot sequence is corrupt, this is why it's stuck in the loop and won't fully boot up. I'd test the backlight on command to be sure the inverter is being enabled, you should see around 3 volts at the backlight enable pin on the power board , if you see inverter enable signal the main board is most likely working ok. It's not common for the inverter section to give issues so I'd look at bad LED backlights as the most possible failure, if your able, when the set is working go to menu and back down the backlight brightess setting and see if the picture stays on, with it set lower the current draw will be less, if this happens it's bad backlight strips.

Take the back off the TV, run the set for a few minutes and see if the processor IC on the tcon board is warm to the touch, if it's cold you most likely have a bad panel, if it's warm it could be a bad main or tcon board
Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.
Pray that set is still under warranty - one year. If you used a major credit card you get an extra year. Otherwise any repair will be at your expense.
Make note of the exact symptoms and check google for them - you will come across blogs telling you what boards may be responsible for the problem and that is what has to be replaced.
Often you can buy replacement boards on ebay for a good price. Just checked and they have a lot showing for that set in parts! Lucky you.
