Turns out the WorkCentre 3615 has two types of toners - None Metered 106TO2722 and Metered 106RO2724. Both toner boxes say WorkCentre 3615. You must order the correct one or you will get this error and the machine won't work at all. Who knew? Xerox admitted they sent us the wrong one, so they are offering to fix with a code over the phone.

The CHIP on the NON OEM cartridge is NOT current with correct firmware and as a result the cartridge(s) will NOT reset that a new cartridge has been installed.

Verify that you are using oem Xerox toner cartridge. If you're using an Oem Xerox cartridge and still getting this error it could also be the Crum Board, part number 140N63302.

Use the RESET feature (see the user manual page 43 or about).
Set it to: RESET ALL.
The problem should now be solved.

If you get the "invalid cartridge" message, try completely turning off and unplugging the unit. Then remove the cartridge, close the door and after at least 30 seconds, restart the unit. Then reinstall the cartridge. This worked for me!

The toner has a chip inside. The chip could be damaged or not reset properly. Please bring it back to where you bought it from to get it exchanged.
