Check the options on the door of dishwasher. Some dishwashers allow you to select wash top rack or bottom or both. Check your settings.

If your Smeg dishwasher is only washing the top drawer, it could be due to a blockage in the water line. First, check the filter at the bottom of the dishwasher and clean it if necessary. If the filter appears to be clear, then you may need to contact a professional to unclog the water line.

If the cycle is complete and dishes are clean, then you need to worry. Try to pull the drain hose up a bit under the sink. Also buy a Finish dishwasher cleaning kit and run dishwasher as per instructions on the kit. That should clean any obsrtuctions in the drain side.

Have a kitchenaid double drawer dishwasher. While running the bottom drawer the top drawer fills up with water. Had the filler valve on the garbage disposal changed. Issue still continues. Any suggestions
Mine does the same thing! (Same model) I've finally discovered that if I start the bottom drawer first and the top drawer just after that doesn't happen as much. Also, if I run the garbage disposal (and water obviously) while it's starting (I will try to do my hand washing while the dishwasher is getting going) that seems to keep this from happening as well. I've given up running just one drawer, which totally defeats the purpose of buying the 2 drawer dishwasher. But it does keep me from having to bail the bottom drawer :-( I'd like a better solution to this too!

Does the drain hose loop up to the top of the unit before going to the sink drain? If it goes down first it may be siphoning or draining by gravity.

riff...not sure what the bits are...first, they may be food crumbs or the like. Dishwashers have macerators to grind up food particles but they have no really good way to get rid of them in the wash cycle. Scrape plates of any solids before loading them. If the material is shaped like water droplets, you may have hard water stains. Use Jet Dri or a cleaning product which claims to help and use the amount specified. Your water temp may be low...it should be 125F or better. If you can run the hot tap and put your hand under it...it isn't hot enough. You can also use the heated water setting to deal with this.
