Just bought a used 5540C SE with finisher. $500/400k copies I know it's an old machine, but it still has some more copies to give. I'm getting a C390 error. Call service. Pulled the EPU tray and checked the connections I could see. Cleaned the sensor under cyan and reinstalled. Powered on and then got C3A0 error. Did same procedure with magenta. And the rest at the same time Powered on again and was back at C390. The machine has not been used for 4 years but had no errors when it was shut off. It was transported in a trailer but was properly secured. Of course, there was vibrations and some bumps when loading and unloading. it's one heavy mf. Any ideas on where to check? I would guess there is just something that has come loose somewhere or toner that has ended up on some sensor maybe.
The C3A0 error code in a Toshiba e-studios 5540c copier usually indicates a problem with the magenta color developer unit. The C390 error code is a general error code that is usually displayed when a specific error cannot be determined.

It's possible that the EPU tray may have come loose during transport, leading to a C390 error

Thank you,
I have run 03-114 and 03-115. All 4 motors run as normal
I have checked all connections and can’t find any loose connections anywhere. Checked the EPU and LGC board.
Checked fuses just to make sure.
I have lifted the entire EPU tray, cleaned the connections, lifted the drums and cleaned the sensor underneath.
Replaced all toners as it was very low. Now the error has moved to C380.
According to the error code list all the codes points to Auto-toner sensor abnormality (upper limit)
C380 – K, C390 – C, C3A0 – M (just waiting for C3B0 Y)
Its unlikely that all developers or sensors have gone bad at the same time.
As its not showing C382, C392, C3A2 or C3B2 it indicates that the sensor is detected by the boards.
I’m leaning towards toner compacting in developer during transport or that its covering some sensors.
Found adjustment of the auto-toner sensor. 6.1.2 page 550 in the manual.
It’s a little hassle but it will clear any compacted toner in the developer and it will refill the developer with the correct amount. Guess it also will reset the sensor.
Is this a good idea or am I way off?
