It's Jack at Dyson. I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC25. If the machine shut off while you were using it, it may have overheated due to a blockage, or because the filters need a wash. To resolve this, please follow the steps shown in our Online Support guide:

There could be a few things wrong. The indication is that your Dyson is overheating and the safety switch is turning it off. There are some easy remedies for this if nothing worse is wrong.
Clean your filter or replace it. Check all the hoses, brushes, and belts for debris stuck in them. Does you brush turn? Do you smell anything hot or burning?
The usual problem is one of the first two suggestions.
If this doesn't work, please reply back and we'll investigate further.
I hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up. Thanks,
One of the buttons turns on the machine and the other turns off the rotating brush, since the Dyson does not work well at all on bare floors with the rotating bar running. The buttons on mine are right on the front of the machine and are very large.
If your brush bar is turned on, but is not working, please turn off the machine, unplug it and turn it upside down. Take a look at the bar mechanism. Does it have thread or hair or any other long objects wrapped around it? If it does, remove these, using small scissors carefull if you need to. This kind of debris can easily stop the brush.
If the bar still does not work, your vacuum belt is probably worn out or broken. you can order one here http://platinumvacuum.com/search.php?mode=search&page=1 or may be able to buy one at the same store where you bought the vacuum.
Next to the power switch is another button, this switches the brushbar on and off. The brushbar can be turned off for hard floor surfaces so as not to scratch them
