hi there is nothing to do by yourself. you need to take your md player to the next authorized service. seems the optical device that reads the discs has worn out, compareable to turntables you need to change the `needle` ;)

Toc not writing

I was going to note that when you first turn the MD recorder on is when it will write the TOC for the disc - so even if you turn it on and press eject, it is smart enough to write a TOC first, then eject the disc. Good find on the battery loss.

SONY MDS JE 530. (C14) Toc error.

You may well be right. Try a different brand of disc.

I have just put a blank disc into my sony mds s40 to record but now nothing works on the player....i just keep getting a small red flashing toc, i've tried unplugging from mains then re connecting but...

You may have the disc shutter closed preventing recording. You should never interrupt the recorder when it is trying to write to disc, you probably corrupted the table of contents (TOC) on the disc and need to reformat it to use it again.
If your deck is older you may have worn out the recording heads preventing it from writing to the disc in the worst case.

Kenwood MD plays ok but recordings fail to play; U TOC error?

Without a decent Table Of Contents, your MiniDisc will NOT work, as you've found out. Does it matter what brand of MD you use? I would record it at "1X" and NOT 4x speed too. Try erasing a blank minidisc first and then shut off the unit and then turn it back on and see if the TOC works. Try adding a title, then turn it off and back on. Then try the CD to MD.

Sony minidisc MDS-JE530 c13 rec error

This could be a solution for your problem, if you get a C13 error it's because of dust on the lens causing TOC read errors. Try blowing out dust using clean compressed air (the kind in the can used for computer maintenance).

Jb 940 md player. Recording a full disc, always results in playback stopping around 38 mins. previously recorded discs will play back ok, so suspect record process not completing. When played in spare...

When you get done recording, do you wait until the "TOC" light stops flashing? If you cut off power before the Table Of Contents is written, then it can't find all your music. Even if you eject, it should still flash a little red TOC or UPDATE before it spits the disc out. Check for that. okay?

Spontaneous MD erasure

Well, depending how the content was recorded, there may be a slim chance to recover the audio. To me it looks like TOC was not written successfully, effectively deleting the TOC.
You can try TOC cloning with this 'blank' MD using another MD player, but your track markers will be lost during the cloning. If it works, at best you will end up with ONE long track. Then you can edit and reset your track markers.

It may be also be a good idea, to try the JE440 carefully with junk content to make sure it still works ok when writing TOC. You may have an intermittent problem too. I'd be very careful editing MD in this unit until it has been confirmed the TOC writing works ok. You may want to check the over-write head assembly and the cable that connects it. Sometimes these cables develop hairline cracks causing intermittend write action.

Check out www.minidisc.org forum for TOC cloning.

Good luck recovering your audio.

Sony MDS JE-320 not recording

This is a common problem with the overwrite head on these units. There is a two wire connection going to it which fails after a couple of years of service. Or for some reason the overwrite head does not make contact to the MD disk surface, it is suppose to when recoding or writing the TOC.
This overwrite head assembly is very very delicate, provided you feel comfortable to work on it you can probably fix it. Or find a local electronics technician to help you with that.

Do some reading on the Minidisc Forum

Hope this helps

NO sound from my sony mdx-c8200

I had the same problem before with the same unit, and I found that the problem was only the recording format, you have to record your MDs in SP mode, this is because, the mdx-c8200 is a non MDLP MD compatible unit. So, if you want to listen your MDs on your mdx-c8200 just don t record em in LP mode, just SP mode.
