Image flashes for one second on screen then goes away

I have a Philips BDM4350UC/27 TV. When powered up, the Philips logo appears on the screen and goes away after about a second, then the image from the laptop desktop connected via HDMI flashes on the screen for, again, about a second, then goes away. The latter happens too if I disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable and after the laptop wakes up from sleeping. No sound plays on the TV. Some additional info. When there's an image displaying on the screen, the Control Button doesn't respond. If the laptop goes to sleep, then the Control Button allows me to select the language, then a window appears saying no video input followed by another window that says enter sleep mode. That last window stays up for a few seconds before going to sleep. If I disconnect the HDMI cable, a window after selecting the language crawls on the screen saying check cable connection. That stays on for a few minutes before going to sleep. These seem normal OSD panel behaviours, except maybe for the first one when nothing appears. But the point is that in these cases the display doesn't go away after one second. Any idea on what component may be defective? P.S. I have tried different HDMI cables and more than one computer (Mac Book and Mac Mini). Also different ports on the TV. Same result.

There could be a few different issues that could cause the behavior you're describing. Here are a few possibilities:

HDMI connection issue: Make sure the HDMI cable is properly connected to both the TV and the laptop. If you're using a HDMI splitter or HDMI switch, make sure those are also properly connected.

HDMI port issue: If you've tried multiple HDMI cables and still have the issue, there could be an issue with the HDMI port on the TV or laptop. You could try a different HDMI port on the TV or laptop, or use a different device to see if the issue persists.

Display settings: Make sure the display settings on the laptop are set to display on the external monitor (the TV in this case). If the laptop is set to display on the built-in monitor, it may cause the display to flash on and off.

Hardware issue: If none of the above solutions help, there could be a hardware issue with the TV or laptop. It's possible that the display controller or other hardware component is faulty and causing the display to flash on and off. In this case, it may be necessary to have the device repaired or replaced.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for your reply. Good questions. Did try more than one HDMI cable and different computers. The display setting are fine. Also different HDMI port on TV. Same result. Also tried a VGA cable on a PC, but nothing happens in that case. Maybe I need to change the video input, but I don't have a remote and the OSD Control Button doesn't get me past the language selection. It seems obvious there's a problem with the TV, and my hope was that I could get here a bit more than "it may be necessary to have the device repaired." I was hoping that based on the detailed behaviour I provided that someone in the know may point out what the defective component (inside the TV) may be.

Philips 46PFL5706/F7 46 LCD TV. When you turn it on you have power. The Philips logo appears for a second then goes away. Screen is black after that.

Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement.

Magnavox MPTV68A "Magnavox" emblem is displayed and won't disappear

I don't know the exact TV, but Magnavox usually have an item or two items in the menu system where the "Magnavox" and also the "blue screen of death" can be disabled. Look in your manual.
I'd suggest the reason it appears is temporary loss of signal from the antenna, set top box, cable system or whatever it is you receive your TV programming via. I don't have an answer as to why it occurs watching video, but turning off the logo and blue screen should help. If it still occurs, it's time for professional intervention!

Unwanted black rectangle on the TV screen

I'm not sure what type of TV you are using,, but most all Large Screens have a reset button someplace. You should be able to reset the TV and fix the problem. Its not the remote, making the image appear, but a command from it was misinterpeted. Sometimes turning the set off will work, but most often it needs to be reset.

EXCEPTION... if you are using a cable box. Disconnect it from power, wait 1 minute and then see if the problem exists. If the cable box is on even with the DVD you may still have this issue. Please reset the cable, and if that doesn't work, reset the TV.
Thanks! //D
